No one in this group has the 'say' but just curious what the general feeling is amongst WAC fans and supporters about following a model similar to that of the Ohio Valley Conference in awarding their NCAA automatic bids.

Quote:The OVC Board of Presidents reviewed an action item developed by the Council of Directors of Athletics earlier in the Spring, detailing transitioning schools being eligible for OVC championships and its policy to award its NCAA Automatic Qualifier (AQ) should a transitioning school win the championship. The adopted policy states that should a transitioning school win an OVC championship, the AQ shall be awarded to the highest remaining seed in that round of a tournament bracket. The Board unanimously supported the recommendation.

UPDATE posted a few hours after initial post

I like highest remaining seed over final regular season conference standing, but that's only because I'm still salty over (3) GCU WBB knocking (2) UVU out in the 2021 tournament semi-final but Wolverines still getting the AQ after GCU lost to CBU in the final. Watching a team you literally put out of the tournament then claim the AQ had to be awful for the entire GCU WBB team and staff, but thems was the rules.

Seems like a good way to do it. But in a single elimination sport, if the last two surviving AQ-eligible teams make it to the semifinals, isn't there time to schedule an extra game to resolve it? Would just to need to reserve one more time slot "if necessary" on the day of the final.
Speak of the devil

This is a very good decision by the conference leadership.
Bottom 3 schools also miss the basketball tournament too.
