What if we went the potential route and gauged GCU’s interest in starting up football? That would put us in another good media market. They’ve committed to athletics and could easily afford football. It would create an instant rivalry with Liberty. NMSU fans seem to hate the Lopes so that would be good. They’ve shown success in both MBB and Baseball. Plus it creates a split into east and west.
You want trips way out there?

In exchange for. . . (I can't think of what for, just any old tenth team?)

We’re flying to the majority of teams so I don’t think it really matters at this point.

But what is the payoff? You can say "the trip isn't so bad" and I guess that's something to debate, but that's still on the con side of the ledger. What's the pro here? Even if the travel isn't that bad (which I'm not convinced of), that's still not an argument for wanting to add them. Why would anyone want to do this? What would be the point? How does it help? Is there a positive? Because I don't see one.
Hell. No.

Same positives as UTSA, ODU and Charlotte when they were added, large metro. The added positive they have is there is a large fan base already in place (similar to ODU). They have their negatives, like Liberty, but I think they’d bring in some value if added. Not advocating for them I’m just trying to add to the conversation with the off season looming.

I just don't see it.

I can't see it. I don't think CUSA wants to base future teams off New Mexico State and UTEP, because they could move to another conference. I think they want to be a S/SE conference. Also, Grand Canyon is even 6 hours west of NMS and UTEP.
GCU shot down questions about adding football at the WAC expansion press conference in Houston just over a year ago. Doubt anything has changed.

FWIW from what I’ve seen, Grand Canyon fans are against it adding it. They’d rather spend the money on soccer and basketball.

Let's be honest, this has nothing to do with them.
Let's say they were willing and all that. Wouldn't they become just another G5 in the shadow of a P5 thats 25 minutes away? I get that they print money off their online diploma mill but the other factors don't seem to add up all well. Do they have room to build a stadium on campus? If not then it would be pretty tough to build a fanbase playing off campus.

I’m confused! Who are you referring to?
