Why do you always jump to politics?
The French themselves have never used "French Open." It's always been "Roland-Garros." More American outlets are now calling things by what locals/organizers actually call them, like "The Open Championship" instead of "The British Open."
Roland-Garros is the facility, named after a French World War I pilot.

I'm aware of who Roland-Garros was and that the stadium was named for him. I found it odd that, while NBC, CBS, ESPN, Sporting News and eurosport.com all refer to the 2022 tournament as the French Open as they have been doing for years, on the several stations broadcasting it all are listed as Roland-Garros Tennis (not the Roland-Garros Tournament). I don't know if it's the networks doing that or my cable provider, Spectrum, that has changed.
