Just my 2 cents:
1- I fear Memphis getting into Big 12, and shortly thereafter, it implodes or breaks up. It no longer is a P5 conference. Think Memphis joining Big East which later becomes Big East.
2- G5 with highest rank will have a slot in football playoffs in future.

As far as PLAYOFF SCENARIO ONLY , would staying G5 turn out to be better option than we fear now?
I’ve thought about that too - absolutely want to be in the new B12, even if it’s just to be back with Cinci, UCF & Houston at a minimum. But, IF things stayed put, I could see an argument in that we could have our best on-field results as being the best G5 and continually gaining an automatic bid. We shall see.
I lean towards no only due to the bias against G5. You slip up in the P5 you still might have a shot.

If the BigXII slips out of the P5 (which would become the P4), it becomes part of the new G6. So we’d be no worse off than staying in the AAC.

That should be in the back of everyone's mind should we even get an invite. Even if that were to happen, being in a Conference with Houston, UC, UCF, BYU and Boise is preferable to what's on the horizon, IMO

Can we not hope for an invite from the ACC? I personally think that's the better conference for Memphis, even though a call from the Big 12 is more likely if one was to send us an offer.
The premise of your initial post is a bit flawed. Unless you are taking your two points completely separate for the answer to your question.

1. If we get into the B12 and it implodes. It won't implode until after the next round of tv contracts. When it comes to contracts it is MASSIVELY better to be in a P5 (even if it is about to implode) than in a G5.

2. No promise that will happen or how they will take into consideration inclusion. If it is to the highest G6 (taking into account your first premise) then it would still likely be much better to be in the B12. The chance of getting inclusion in a conference with a much higher overall rating would be a no brainer. The remaining AAC would be a distant second, sometimes even third in the G6 when it comes to overall power. You would have to have a perfect season and hope for a lot of help to get close to a playoff (unless they have a play-in type scenario) If they went that route, then possibly yes to being in the AAC as a better chance, but ONLY for Playoffs. Everything else would be a negative.
We used to be conference mates with Louisville but now we never play them at all. That was our conf biggest rival back then.

Southern Miss was too.

We had forged pretty good rivalries with Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF but those will fade out too if we get left behind.

Make no mistake; it's B12 or bust even if it does slip from being a 'power' conference - it will still be the best of the rest.

Just my 2 cents, there's nothing happy about Memorial Day.

I agree that it would be the best of the rest. Each time we have changed leagues since CUSA it has been a better conference. That would still be the case w/o TX and OK.

True. And fallen soldiers don't win wars, the ones who out-live the opponent do.

However, God bless all who serve to protect our freedoms.

You probably didn’t mean that the way I read it, so I’ll leave it alone.
It's the same stupid sentiment that mirrors the dumb quote in racecar's signature.
