Everything was going great during the campus visit and game that day. CUSA officials were enjoying themselves when during the game some idiot with beer breath and chewed up popcorn falling out of his mouth starts shouting in their face “I AM THE SOUL OF AN ILLITERATE FARMER! I AM THE SOUL OF AN ILLITERATE FARMER! TARLETON GREATER THAN SEATTLE! TARLETON GREATER THAN NMSU!” This man was escorted away from the CUSA reps who were visibly shaken and weirded out. They gathered their belonging and left soon after.

That is actually funny. But, realistically Tarleton equals transition to D1 should NOT be a viable option for an FBS conference. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures on CUSA's part.

I mean seriously they took NMSU, SHSU and Jax State so it not like its some elite conference. Let's be real here.

Right? If lowly nmsu is FBS material, then by God, Tarleton is too.

NMSU has great basketball, SHSU had elite FCS Football with a recent National Championship (Something Tarleton will never sniff), and Jax State has great football.

They are joining a much better situation than the WAC.

If you want to be considered one of the worst FBS programs in history of FBS go for it. You better be good in just about everything else you offer in athletics.

Definitely not elite, but better than what we had here.

Yes, in some regards a C+ definitely better than a C-. NMSU has always been considered the low man on the totem pole of FBS. Changing Conferences will not change that perspective. Getting competitive at Football will. Not to say it can't happen but history has proven this program to be nothing more than road kill. Hope it works out for you guys.

By better, I mean we now have a conference home for football. Trust me, we all know we have a horrible football history. No one is saying different. Let’s hope the new coach can make us competitive in what will be a weaker FBS conference. Bring competitive in this new conference is what we are hoping for, anything above that will be a gift.

Doesn't get much worse than nmsu at FBS level, and we've already demonstrated our football program is lightyears ahead of theirs. I like our chances. Making strides in Basketball as well.

NMSU has been FBS forever. Tarleton is still a transitional D2 school.

Light years? When was the last time NMSU lost to 5 FCS teams like Tarleton did last year?

Rather than address the facts, you try and talk down to the poster? Typical
"If" NMSU manages its FBS program correctly, NMSU beats Tarleton 9 times out of 10. Tarleton beats NMSU in spring football, on a neutral site, with much of the NMSU team transferring out in the fall prior due to the COVID cancelation of Aggie football, and with a head coach squarely on his way out for lack of production... and some Texan fans now think Tarleton is now FBS worthy? What Tarleton did in that spring game was no different than what Chicago State did by beating NMSU in basketball this year. It was a good day for Chicago State but it by no means does it elevate their basketball program to NMSU's level, nor Tarleton's in football. With a "good" head coach, strong FBS recruiting classes, and a decent FBS football budget, Tarleton gets sent home with a loss almost every time. And yes, NMSU is a bottom feeder FBS program. But that's exactly why Sam Houston took the leap to C-USA. The money stream from FBS football and the subsequent trickle down to other Bearkat programs is too great to turn down.

But that's just it, Outlier...your "facts" are totally lame. Ok, you're right, nmsu did not lose to 5 FCS schools. Gee, I wonder why? If they were able to play 5 FCS schools, especially the 5 that *beat* Tarleton, they'd have gone 0-5, in a much more lopsided fashion. Stay in your lane, kiddo. Football is a man's sport.

You’re also a FBS “outlier”, as your school isn’t even a full D1/FCS school. So by your own dumb*** logic, you’re unable to talk about FBS schools and results since Tarleton is a transitional D1 school.

Yup, if you say so... but Tarleton is at NMSU's mercy. Your school goes nowhere without an invite from C-USA... and NMSU has a vote in that matter. So, you can pound sand and flap your lips all you want in the meantime. NMSU remains in the FBS and in a conference... and there is nothing you can say about that.

"Tabled" lol!

Tarleton needs to get lost. They're too obscure and small time for FBS football. It sounds made up. Nobody IN Texas had heard of it before recently. They should know their place. And it's not the FBS. CUSA wants to IMPROVE as a conference, not further embarrass itself. Adding Tarleton would be a JOKE. The stigma of allowing a D2 school in would kill the conference. I think we all know how subpar their sports are. Smart for CUSA to reject them. Better at 9 members than 10 with that A&M feeder campus.

Lmao, Sammy you never disappoint. If I didn’t know better listening to you and your gross ignorance I’d swear C-USA was an elite FBS conference. News flash it’s the low man on the totem pole that is scratching and clawing to stay in existence. Like they can be picky or choosy.

Don’t they need someone to mow the prison grounds. Seems you’d be a perfect fit if you are not already incarcerated!

CUSA clearly CAN be picky and choosy, as they just rejected a certain overambitious former JUCO. CUSA would rather have an unstable group of nine than add Tarleton as the tenth member. That's what they think of your school. That's what they think of your athletics. Even CUSA has standards. And Tarleton doesn't make the cut. Embarrassing.

FYI BlewDragon, if you ever are looking for a real college football team to cheer for (not FCS or D2 or whatever lil ol Tarleton is in), you're welcome to cheer for the KATS.
