This was a headline written for clickbaits. The headline reads like the shooting happened in the theater when actually it was a group of people that continued an earlier party in the theater parking lot. The theater was closed for the night when the shooting occured.

Sounds like they are non-life threatening injuries.

Still, not good optics for NIU.
The theater is not at all near campus. Still, need to find a better deterrent for this behavior in Dekalb, everywhere.

What headline are you referring to as clickbait?
The online story headline reads "NIU student among 2 injured in DeKalb AMC movie theater parking lot shooting: police".
It specifically notes the parking lot and an NIU spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that "the university had been notified of the male student's injuries that were non-threatening." The story was updated a few times pinpointing the theater was closed and the police chief said the shooting wasn't affiliated with the movie theater itself. The main optic that is not good is simply having a shooting, period.

Point taken, but my my first reaction was there was a shooting that involved people that had a connection to o the movie theater(leaving the movie or going to movie) but the theater had nothing to do with this shooting except having a big parking lot

To me, an appropriate headline would have been "2 shot in late night party at parking lot on Sycamore road."
Spring 2022 shootings in the vicinity of U of I:

This is not an NIU/Dekalb thing, at all. Need to clamp down on this kind of behavior everywhere, won't happen overnight.

The 2020s are a weird and wild place. Please be safe everyone.
Seeing surroundings, seems like a pretty odd place to be at 2:30am.

Probably charging their electric car.
Who hangs out at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning in a parking lot and carries a gun? Let us guess.

Grad students. Dogfan always carried a loaded gun into The Grotto.

Yes, but after I shot the load, my gun was empty.

The rumor was that you were always shooting blanks.

Out of hundreds of parties and bar visits in my five years in DeKalb, I never saw anybody with a gun. Times have changed in DeKalb.

There isn't a newspaper in the world that is going to hire you if you write a headline like that.
Question 1: What parking lot on Sycamore Road? You've now pointed the finger at a variety of potential places ranging from supermarkets to fast food to auto dealerships to car repair to gas stations to a hospital to property owned by NIU to dental offices to vision centers to insurance outlets.

Question 2: Isn't 2 shot inaccurate? Article states "We have one male, he was shot in the lower extremities" plus "A woman also suffered injuries from shattered glass."

Question 3: In this "late night party" was there alcohol being served, music, dancing, board games, etc.? According to the article it was believed "people involved came from a party that had occurred earlier Saturday night at NIU's Recreation Center." How and why did that "party" move to the cinema parking lot?

While I'm not going to say The Daily Chronicle -- aka the Daily Comical, the Northern Slur, the Aurora Be-Confused, etc. -- is an example of great journalism, getting the facts right and creating a headline that both fits the space and sums up the article isn't as easy as some might think. Once again, the sad optic is yet another shooting taking place in town and regrettably there are "townies" who will negatively focus on the NIU connection.

I guess I'll have to live with the fact that I won't be the next Mike Royko. How am I ever going to get over this?

A shot and a splash.

Actually, it was more like Huskie basketball. Weak dribbling down the floor ending with a shot far from the target.

So you followed Patton's playbook.
