Now you can move us to the upper tier of the MAC next year. Top 6.

A week or two ago, I was thinking this coming years team was going to be worse then last years team. Things changed fast!!

Do believe Acuff will be in starting line-up. Don’t see Heath ever playing Golson at Center, nor Legend Geeter, even he does sign, ever playing SF.

I think he did sign already. This is from the EMU basketball account.

No Kool Aid just thinking we have improved give it a year and if folks stick around we may be back at the NCAA. I would like a veteran point guard.
I bet Geeter gets some minutes at center. Not super tall, but he’s a tank and pretty athletic. I think he and Randle will probably split time there, with Jihad as the 3rd option.

A lineup with Golson, Billingsley, and Geeter all in there together would be thickkkkk. 6’6 230, 6’8 225, and 6’8 235, respectively. Chris Creighton might want to give them a shot as a LB corps too.
Ok I’ll join in the fun prediction

PG 6-2 Noah/Luka / 6-2 Lovejoy / NEEDED
SG 6-4 Acuff/Noah/Luka/Rice
SF 6-6 Golson/Legend / 6-4 Rice
PF 6-8 Ballingsley /6-10 Randle / Legend/6-8 Ballard
C 6-9. Needed/6-10 Randle/ 6-8 Jihad

This would be my guess - very solid rotation!

I think we need a starting Center and a starting Pg so Noah could slide to Sg
Meanwhile, somewhere in Ohio, is a kid named Mo is looking in the rearview mirror and scatching his head. No word if a U-turn is being considered or if it would even be allowed.

Maybe Coach Heath is recruiting him hard to come back to EMU? We will see…..

Interesting article. Thanks, Steve. I was surprised to learn Tyson Acuff was also a Mr Basketball finalist. Was able to confirm that it is true:

Also Tyson Acuff is from Cass Tech- where the smart kids go. So might be a high caliber guy as well. He is rising in my depth chart.

Acuff has a beautiful looking jump-shot. Knows how to create space.

I’m excited about this roster! Great job of recruiting by Heath.

I do think C minutes will be covered by the talent on hand: Legend, Randle, Jihad, Ballingsley, and Ballard.

Agree that Heath’s done a terrific job recruiting players.

Wd need to keep in mind that EMU has gone from having many experienced players to a very young team consisting of 7 sophomores, a HS player (Lovejoy), two red-shirt freshman (Randle and Geeter), no juniors, with Ballard being the the only senior.

The team is also top-heavy with PFs.
For EMU to be competitive this season it cannot afford to allow opponents to average 76 ppg as the did last season. As such, EMU still needs to sign a true Center, as Randle. a shot-blocker, is presently EMU’s only Center who can adequately defend the rim.
EMU has to two excellent PGs in Noah and Lovejoy, as both are very skillful, have high bb IQ’s. and play with non-stop intensity. EMU fans are going to be enthralled with Lovejoy’s game as he goes full bore throughout a game and never takes a minute off.

Luka S. also has lots of talent that is ready to be unharnessed.
Acuff is a highly skilled SG who is a triple threat player who can score from
anywhere on the court and can get to the rim. He shot 39 percent on three’s.

Since he shoots so well, I do want to see him shoot far more often than the once every four minutes he did last season.

He shot more two-point jumpers than he did going to the rim. He needs to go to the rim far more as he shot 56.7 percent at the rim, and only 37 percent on 2-point jumpers. Acuff needs to shoot more three’s as well.

He also needs to work on getting to the foul-line more as playing 23.5 mpg for Duquesne he only averaged .6 foul shots per game.

Have you seen game tapes of his? Or are you making judgements from reading stats?

He’s making judgements based on the stats of young players, as if they’ll never develop or improve.

You’re making an assumption about players you’ve never seen play. You have virtually no clue how Geeter is as a rim protector. Using height as your rationale isn’t very wise. The best rim protector and low post defender I’ve ever seen (and I may be a bit biased) was the (allegedly) 6’8 Ben Wallace.

You should ask and not assume what I base my opinions on. I’ve seen both Acuff’s video tapes, have also viewed his stats, and spoken to people I respect who knows his game. And when stats speak, one should listen.

Acuff’s jump shooting form is very good, and he takes his time. He’s also is strong and agile, and that allows him to score well driving to the hoop.

Most bb players struggle to shoot a high 2-point jump shooting percentage because their two point jumper is often contested and they rush.
Such is a problem for seniors as well. Rarely do good jump shooters shoot even 42 percent on two’s.

Tyler Herro, now in the NBA, was one of the nation’s best two-point jump shooters, but he shot but 46 percent on two point jumpers in at Kentucky. Even Noah who has a very good mid-range shot did not shoot over 40 percent on two’s.

All I’m saying is that since Acuff shoots 56.7 percent at the rim, and 39 percent on three’s (the equivalent to shooting 59 percent or so on two’s)
and he would have scored more points if he had not chosen to shoot more two-point jump shots as he did.

His rarely took foul shots tells me he hasn’t learned the techniques necessary to draw fouls. Noah’s going to work on the same this summer. As it would be far better for him to shoot foul shots as he shot 73 percent at the foul-line. In this sense, bb is simply a game of math.

I haven’t said a thing about Legend other than he’s a very good player. I do see him as a classic PF. EMU is pursuing a much taller player with long arms with more agility, and blocks shot far more than Legend does. I suspect he’s far more suited than Legend would be to play the center position.

We all want to see EMU sign the best players they can at each of the five positions on the court.
