I think it depends on who you speak to but the democrats were furious he didn't get at least hearing to prove he was qualified. I believe the WMU faculty were happy to see him get appointed.

I did hear one of the senators mention it. I will say this, I wasn't exactly enthusiastic when I heard Hoadley attended Michigan State. I would prefer all WMU alumni sitting on our board.

I don't think there's a law against it but it's a huge conflict of interest. There are student groups that deal with the board. It seems inappropriate to have an actual student also ON the board.

I don't think there's a law against it but it's a huge conflict of interest. There are student groups that deal with the board. It seems inappropriate to have an actual student also ON the board.
Then you recuse yourself on that issue.
Or do we expect the Trustees to not continue their education while holding an education position? That would seem even more strange.

We need someone who has a passion for the school & has strong ties to it, not a random grad student.

He is also a human, so he probably needs to recuse himself from any issue that would involve humans too since we are going to use the broadest possible definition, I guess.

Speaking of "Southwest Michigan First", one has to wonder if this wasn't GOP retribution for ex-Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield's resignation from the economic development agency due to his past stance on LGBTQ issues.
