I'm assuming American Press is legit? Looked kinda like it.

I'm not going to miss Lamar. I do hate ending up with UIW instead. Still the dumbest addition possible(outside of HBU).
LAMAR SEES THE LIGHT BABY #SouthlandStrong

It will soon be a better football conference than the WAC once again!
4th Texas School (UTSA, TXST, UTA 2012-13) to leave the WAC after one year. Will more follow?

Not really the same thing, but okay
I know many saw this coming-- but it is still very unusual.

I am getting lost on members/ numbers again.

AS of FALL 2024-- That's 2024-- Who will be WAC members?
I would contend that Lamar has shown their full deck of cards at this point.

The institution has indicated very clearly that they are not in a position to compete outside the Southland Conference nor take the step up in competition that Sam Houston (in the same system) and Stephen F Austin (a 'peer institution') have in sports that at one time mattered to the Lamar fan base (namely basketball).

Must be the movement that started on the CUSA board.

2024 is far away. For fall 2023, look at this year’s basketball standings. Subtract Chicago State, NMSU, Sam Houston, and Lamar. Add Southern Utah, UIW, and UTA.

So 12 schools (7 FB) ?

Correct, but depends on when UTRGV actually plays.
Wonder what the impact will be to to 2022 football schedules?

Considering both leagues had already released their schedules, can’t imagine either conference is that pleased with it.
Shocker. Who could have foreseen this happening?

Maybe You?
And to think a few years ago there were rumors that Lamar wanted to upgrade to the FBS level; guess those plans have been nipped in the bud....assuming they ever existed to begin with.

They were very real before the WAC dropped football. Lamar wanted to go to the WAC and restart football as an FBS. Yes, some amount of reality may have stepped in, but mostly I think it is a perception of the fan base and a lack of leadership from the university. Dr Simmons who was the President from around 2005 until maybe five years ago was instrumental in getting football restarted and looking for a conference to move to that played FBS. I doubt if he were still President Lamar would be moving back to the SLC.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Lamar University is in the wrong part of Beaumont and its virtually impossible to attract athletes when they visit other universities. This is definitely a step back and it will do little to improve their brand.

Interesting the map at the end still shows Incarnate Word.
