Over a thousand already. Crazy.

NCAA Free Agency
It's like AAU. Or the NBA without contracts.
Interesting to note is that most transfers have not "jumped up" in terms of schools. In other words, they have not gone from a "lesser" school to a "greater" school. Sure a few have, but the vast majority have dropped or stayed the same.

Sometimes a lateral move is what a player is going for, especially if they're not a top talent and just need a change of scenery.

He might go to Bama State.
I see

He is going to Alabama State

Why?
It may take a few years, but once a lot of these kids don't find new homes and lose their current scholarship; they'll realize that the grass isn't always greener ...

Hope they end up realizing the value of a college education provided for by scholarships ..

Coach Madlock is taking the Bama State gig.

I meant why would coach Madlock make that move. I understand why, if he did, his son would transfer

Alabama State is worse off right now than SC State and doesn’t have a better history

Perhaps regionally being back on the edge of the Mid South in Montgomery, AL was appealing, and maybe the SWAC overall is more appealing to Madlock than the MEAC, which would make some sense based on his history in Memphis, Mississippi and even Texas

But leaving after one year for a position that is arguably not better just seems odd

No question it’s a head scratcher. Being reported on SC tv stations, tho.
Kendric Davis just entered the portal.

Depends on the salaries to decide if it makes sense.
Yes

Likely more money and a chance to resurrect another really down program
Nice loyalty move by Madlock.
Jason Munz puts his confidence level at Memphis landing Kendrick Davis at a 9

Obviously that would be enormous

He is less confident but still pretty solid on landing the East Carolina kid plus a few seasoned big men like Broome and Lofton

All big ifs but if Memphis added Davis and Lofton along with the Ga Southern kid, and Lester, Williams and Bates play here next year, along with Harris, Lomax, the Lawsons and hopefully a healthier Dandridge, we will be really good…again.

I imagine some on this board know Tony personally, but i don't and from the comments on this thread no-one has indicated they know him either.

Maybe he abandoned SCState after one year just as a money grab, but we don't know that. Maybe he had an agreement with the administration for a bump after a successful season and they backed out of the deal, maybe there's a problem with his son at the school, maybe he just doesn't get along with the admin and was asked to leave, or maybe he just hates living in the town. who knows? he did a helluva job there for one year and now he's moving on.

At the end of it can leave for whatever reason he likes, i wish him well.

Are you kidding?
It's SC State.
He took a pay cut to go there, and did them a favor this year.
