Man I feel like I heard somebody say how good he was one time

I’ve got to fall on the sword if this comes to fruition! I was in the “not likely” camp. Another instance when I’d be happy to be wrong!

Me too. Apparently some NFL GM was even (seriously) talking about how they could market the "baby giraffe" thing. I mean, sure, but I would think I'd rather they focused on how good he was on the field. Then again, what do I know?

Where is that Grimace? Banned?
I thought he would at the very least get a look from NFL teams and some thought I was crazy.
I'm not sure I'm on the record...but I was fooled too. Would love to be wrong.

I thought strictly on size and arm strength he would be limited to maybe USFL if anything. Great kid from all accounts so easy to root for him to exceed the ceiling I had in my mind.
Cole’s arm strength is more than good enough for the NFL. Perhaps the speed of his release is a question mark, but Cole has the arm strength to get the ball deep and throw the “out” patterns. And while he’s thin (relative to his height) his height and mobility are also strengths. Don’t discount that Cole is also very, very bright, and his capability to master a complex NFL playbook is a big plus.

I’ve always thought Cole would get a long look if he wanted to play at the pro level, but would most likely be signed by a NFL team as an UDFA. If he gets drafted (whatever round) that would be pure gravy. Cole can play. I don’t understand the fans who have blinders on regarding Cole’s potential as a pro.

I think OJF’s brother spoke favorably of Cole. 04-cheers

Sure would be nice. I think the reason I discounted it was just that *so* many guys who excel in P5 football are helpless in the NFL that the successful FCS QBs are just incredibly rare.

Purple and I (maybe one or two others) and then there were A LOT of naysayers.

Uh, hello?
DirtyDukes was a fan of baby giraffe back when CJ was 195 pounds soaking wet. Purple was pushing Gage going into Spring 2021.

I think most posters were naysayers in late 2021 as Purple was saying CJ was Flaccoesque, similar sized to NFL QBs (CJ was then the lightest of the then 11 NFL QBs 6'"4 - 6'6"; as of his pro-day, he is now tied for the lightest), and had the tools to be a NFL starter; and not necessary naysayers to CJ getting a shot at the next level (via draft, UDFA, mini-camp tryout, CFL, etc.).
Yeah Dirty is without a doubt Cole's biggest fan and biggest believer, by far.

I was extremely excited about how much improvement he showed at the beginning of last season, lots of really impressive throws regardless of the competition. When injuries piled up and he had to deal with more pressure and less support from the run game, he was a little inconsistent again but understandably considering the situation. Especially with the determination to run the ball except on very obvious passing downs... And sometimes then too.

I always feel like it's pretty tough to judge how much of a shot some guys might get in the NFL, we've had some guys that I really thought deserved it and didn't get it while some other FCS guys get the shots that I think some of our guys deserved more. Glad to see Cole looks likely to get a solid look, hope he can get in to a decent situation and capitalize... Also looking forward to more of our guys getting the shot they deserve when they're performing against better competition.

This thread would have been a lot more fun if everyone continued the bit of discussing who had Cole while entirely ignoring Dirty.

Hahaha we blew it 03-banghead
this is not a new story....nfl talks up a lot of guys that never end up getting drafted.

truly hope he does make it - would still be very surprised if he gets anything more than UDFA or practice squad to start out

the NFL would be able to put 30 pounds on him let's hope
