Mitch Garver was just traded to the Rangers today. Jeffers now has starting catching duties locked in for the Twins!
Awesome! Hopefully he has a monster year.

Still think it’s Jeffers’ job. Sanchez is massively overrated and it’s possible they end up flipping Sanchez elsewhere anyways.

If i had to guess i'd say they make him DH. I wouldn't say massively over rated. Dude is super talented offensively and has a cannon for an arm. The staff in NY is terrible with home grown guys for the most part. We will see how he does with a fresh start.

I would say the job now belongs to Sanchez and it is his to lose-which he may very well do .

Makes little sense to me but that may just be the Twins for ya. Invest a 2nd round pick and years into a kid only to force him to split catching duties again with an older player.

Yes, like I said. An older player.

Meanwhile Jeffers is 24.

he's older than Jeffers but 29 isn't considered an "older player " by MLB standards.
Maybe he winds up the DH anyways

By MLB standards, no. By a Catcher's standard, yes.

And yes, Sanchez being the DH was part of my thinking why I still believe it might be Jeffers' job. Alex Kirilloff and Sanchez are probably their best bets for DH duties, and Kirilloff will see a lot of time at 1B and LF.

Assuming Sanchez doesn't get flipped elsewhere, that is.
Boom. Spring lineup for the Twins tomorrow against the Red Sox, as provided by UNCWSuperFan. Sanchez at DH, Jeffers at C:

That's a solid move for the Twins. Gary has historically been a better hitter when he doesn't have to catch. Unfortunately for him the Yankees have 5 DHs already
At some point Jeffers will have to hit the ball ,he is a capable not great catcher .It looks like this year could be a big year for him from what I have seen .

14 HR in under 300 AB last year was solid, however the .199 Average needs to be improved for sure
Games on MLB network right now. Can't think of anything else worth watching today....

Strikes out way to much and tends to be streaky with the power as well . The power is impressive for sure and BA is not as important as being competitive at the plate .

The strikeouts aren't a huge deal, since that's an epidemic across the majors in today's game. But you're right about the approach at the plate, which is reflected in his .285 career OBP thus far. That HAS to improve. And it will. He's still only 24.

Get that OBP up into the .320's or higher this year and he'll in good shape.
Ryan had a much needed good day today. He went two for three with a walk. Scored three runs. His two hits were a double & a homer.

Jeffers out 6-8 weeks with fractured thumb. He should return sometime in September. A shame because he was hitting the ball much better of late.
