Believe it's the same for Murray St.

11 into portal 2 NBA and they have lost all 4 commitments they had for the next 2 years.
Two Murray St guys are following their coach
The starting PG, Hannibal and starting SG, Hill
But the coach really needs to get the Big man Williams to come, he entered the portal a few days ago.
Also got a 6'8 220 F from Northwestern St the leading scorer.

A school can now get a new coach AND team. This will pick up steam and gut good mid-major college basketball programs. Mid-majors have little or no recourse except for an occasional find who will transfer DOWN. Of course a mid-major will NEVER hire a successful Power Six coach — certainly one who would bring players DOWN with him. You got it - and this IS a legit complaint. Welcome to minor league college basketball where the big boys can call up coaches and players for the NEXT season.
Dude most players ARE transferring down or trying to slide to the side but to a better team. Go look at the portal pick several random players I would bet the majority didn't do crap at their last school. They rode the bench and are now looking for playing time (for example the 3 ETSU players who just left) or played for another Mid Major but the team sucked.
People hear about the people who move u because that is interesting.
As for players MOVING down Forbes built his teams on that, (HMP, Glass and Gunn)
this team had two examples Seymour and Sloan moving down
and a ton moving UP or slightly to the side, Adheke, both Brewers and King
Hell Chattanooga was led to the NCAA by that big kid from Kansas. Plenty of movement going both ways. Even here at ETSU.

As for LSU replacing the whole team, the players bailed ahead of the NCAA dropping the hammer, they aren't looking to move up, they already WERE UP and most will be lucky to end up in as good a place.
Forbes has said repeatedly, including very recently, that in the portal, supply exceeds demand. I think that tells the story.

In the end —- what does ETSU, Chattanooga, Murray State, and multiple mid-major others have in common? Name one mid-major school that has hired a successful Power Six coach ever? I say — the portal is for the big boys to take the best of the mid-major players — now package deals including coaches — in exchange for their bench warmers. Who benefits the most from that arrangement?

Hmmm, how many times has someone making Millions of dollars being very successful at his chosen profession been hired to do the same job for much less money??? lmao. Hey I know Kentucky is paying you 9 million but we can give 650k and a membership to the Ridges.. AND a new Honda... come on you know you want it.

You nailed it. Thanks for clearing that up. In college sports now, MONEY isn’t everything, it’s the ONLY thing. As this thing grows, a mid-major like ETSU just hopes donors don’t catch on to a system that’s using their money to more help upward mobile, money chasing coaches - who can now more easily take star players with them - than the school’s athletic program to which they thought they were donating.
You guys are about to make me wonder if this portal stuff might be more about furthering one's sporting career instead of better academic programs and opportunities. 03-idea
The answer is to rehire Bartow or someone like him he will win a little nothing impressive but NOBODY is ever going to want him.
The program will not be that good but at least the coach will stick around and he isn't going to recruit that well so nobody
is going to want to steal our players. Of course, fans won't be happy, stands will be empty but by golly, we will keep OUR coach and OUR players.

I know - it's SOOOO surprising, huh?

I have to say that I do not believe college sports (at least the revenue ones) were really ever much about the academics, but mostly the illusion of it. Shoot, I used to believe the illusion. I now see college sports as largely entertainment and a major part of the schools' marketing. The transfer portal has simply exposed more of college sports' true nature, not created something that wasn't already there.

And, the NIL is of no relationship to academics, of course. With all the money flowing through big time college athletics, with much of it going into the bank accounts of coaches and athletic directors, the NIL is certainly not sufficient to counter the hypocrisy of the system. At least financial accounts - a retirement model - should be waiting for these athletes after their collegiate eligibility ends, or they leave early, in order to show some semblance of “sharing the wealth” at schools with these big athletic budgets. Of course athletes leaving debt free with no student loans to pay back can’t be overlooked especially when student athletic fees, some from borrowed money, helps cover their tuition, room & board, etc. at many places - likely at all the mid-majors. Back to this NIL - seems that could work along side the portal to recruit athletes from one place to the next with an NIL deal thrown in and waiting to be signed at the next place.
Yes indeed - the Transfer Portal at its best:

Not basketball related but for sure related in the grand scheme of things,
Grambling St hired a new volleyball coach in Feb, yesterday she told all 19 players
on the team she was pulling their scholarships based on performance in practice.
Not sure the link will work, but a lot of activity on the women’s side

Holy sheet, looks like we are starting from scratch on the Women's side. 8 transfers out - 1 in seems like a complete house cleaning. Suppose it's to be expected with a regime change.

WJHL did a whole story on that several days ago.

Here it is:

Neftali Alvarez has transferred to Southern Miss. They’re joining the Sun Belt, and finished 5-26 in their final C-USA season.

Now two more Mercer players are transferring: Jovan Tucker and Jackson Greco. 2 role players that saw playing time. They logically would have been in line for major increase in minutes next year. This is an interesting development. No transfers coming in yet, just a lot of guys leaving.

It’s almost time to get Bob Hoffman back on the phone.

Would be interesting to see Portal-SoCon tracking — those leaving and those coming.

Yes it would. At a distance it seems more going than coming.

Watching Bob was worth the price of admission!

Which echoes what Forbes repeated multiple times: supply exceeds demand.
