* A 1994 road game scheduled on this date against Cal State Northridge was postponed by a major earthquake. The game was delayed one day and played in Birmingham. All ticket sales were donated to the earthquake relief fund. UAB made the trip west the next season on 12/3/1994.

This season, UAB is 0-3 in second games of two game road trips. If you include San Francisco (non-conference, neutral site) it becomes 0-4. All four conference loses have been on the second game of a two game week.
All teams tend to struggle on the schedule c-usa plays, and it is a function of penny pinching. The AAC plays Wednesday-Saturday or Thursday-Sunday and only rarely do teams play more than 1 or 2 of these 2-games-in-3-days. It matters.

You might say all c-usa teams face this challenge. Yes. But home teams hold an edge. If you have better depth but don’t use it, you may be making these 2nd games more difficult. The best athletes in the world have their minutes managed to be at peak. But we burn guys’ legs up with a 20 point lead and then wonder why we are struggling Sunday and the guy is 2-for-9.

Something very similar happened years ago with LaTech. When Mike White(?) was the head coach they pressed basically the entire game. They caused a lot of turnovers and won a lot of games and pretty much dominated CUSA - in the regular season. When the tourney rolled around that style failed them as they could not sustain back-to-back days of games. I don't know that they ever won the conference tourney. Definitely not as often as they were expected to.
UTEP has an additional advantage in this case in that their arena sits nearly 4000 feet above sea level.
Vegas has UAB as a 6.5 favorite. That’s laughable to me. I’d have uab -1 or -2 …

Please include the UNT game in those poor performances. It was at home and against a good team, but it was the back end of the 2-in-3 series and we really shot ourselves in the foot a lot.

Coach never rests starters. I don’t get it. This issue is freaking glaringly obvious and has plagued us all year long. AK’s minute and rotation management and the utter lack of any adjustments in the UNT game have really taken some of the excitement away for me about his hiring. I still believe he’s a good coach, but he’s made some very questionable decisions, didn’t adjust in game against UNT, and hasn’t adjusted in season to have the team ready in these kind of games. Call me negative but I call I as I see it. The teams issues and lack of adjustments are painfully obvious.
it seem that UAB always show terrible at UTEP ,,,it will be a very difficult game ,,,,we need that game to finished in second place

We’d still control our destiny for the 2 seed even with a loss, but still, it would show a lot of guts from this team to win against a decent team in a tough environment, and on a long road trip.
We’re doomed. May not win again until next season.
KenPom has it UAB 73 - UTEP 67

UTEP is 16-11 and 9-6. They are 7-3 over their last 10 games. They are 9-5 at home. UTEP lost this past Monday at MTSU 77-59.

What’s funny is you’d have us as underdogs against some pathetic team like Miles, @ Miles. Lol

I would actually have UTEP -1. Late game means the crowd will be liquored up and rowdy. My prediction for tonight around 10:00 is a lot of bit*hing and griping about UAB's performance.
UAB wins 79-67

I’d be impressed if this was the margin of victory. That’s a tough place to play, plus a long road trip. I’d honestly take victory in any form tonight, no matter how beautiful or ugly.
Miners go on strike vs UAB and lose by wide margin to Blazers.
UAB 79 UTEP 61
Go Blazers!
