So glad to be back with ESPN. I look forward to the schedule coming out and seeing which of our games get picked up. The SB3 are not going to know what to think not having to research where every single game will be streamed or broadcast. The simplicity of ESPN/ESPN+ is maybe the thing I look most forward to.

I have never even heard if FloSports, so I would like imagine it is some sort if streaming service like CUSATV? Either way, JMU should flourish with the added exposure of ESPN.

Yeah it’s a sports streaming service. More expensive than CUSA.TV but it does have an OTT app on all streaming platforms unlike CUSA.TV

CAA fans seem to hate it as much as we hate CUSA.TV and Facebook.
Big East also utilizes Flosports. But obviously they also have other TV revenue.

JMU fans had a very large multi-year thread on Flo. We certainly despised it. We had another thread on dumping Flo when the FBS move was announced.

This became such a hot topic that in one of our AD's newsletters he confirmed JMU was against it, and was the only CAA school to vote against it. Forget the exact number, but JMU fans were the largest CAA subscribers to Flo, and a large percentage of what was driving the revenues for Flo.
It felt to us like the CAA was "taxing" our football program so they could pay to air a few basketball games on CBS SN.

Meanwhile, this was killing our regular season exposure relative to other FCS schools. Plus, the service sucked in terms of navigation, cost, etc. JMU has a partnership with Learfield to produce game content and was airing home games on regional sports networks as well so the production quality was good, and that helped some in our region.

The saving grace was that we were able to host ESPN GameDay twice, and the FCS Semifinals and Championship get ESPN broadcasts. This also helped offset the damage Flo did a bit.

My recollection is this is only for some of their secondary sports, not Men's Basketball.
As much as CUSA fans complain about the medial deal, at least it was free? There’s nothing worse than paying $12.50/month, double espn+, for a less accessible and visible media option.

The FloSports platform is garbage and is unnecessarily difficult to navigate the user interface. There’s even the annoyance of having to click the item you want to watch twice to get it to load. They send you to a second screen where you have to click the game thumbnail again. Just horribly designed.

I’ve used many streaming platforms for sports, entertainment and beyond. FloSports is without question the single worst streaming platform user interface I’ve ever seen. It’s also the most expensive streaming platform in the market. Yes, even more expensive than Netflix after their recent price increases.
Honestly, I never had that much trouble finding ODU football games this season. I think one may have been on CUSA.tv. The vast majority of basketball is on plus already. Its just the non-revenue sports that will be better. And its possible we may have some football and basketball broadcast on actual television, which would be different. Though I just watched ODU vs. UAB on the ESPNU last week. CUSA.tv and Flosports absolutely suck. No question.

Now ODU will be on ESPN/ESPN2 instead of ESPNU for nationally televised basketball games.

You're chances are very high of having a nationally televised football game or two on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU, especially if ODU is having a good season.

Just this past season, Louisiana had two broadcasts on ESPN, one on ESPN2, and three on ESPNU.... and those were only SBC vs. SBC games.

If you throw in Louisiana's OOC schedule... they had four on ESPN, one on ESPN2, four on ESPNU, and one on FOX... THAT'S 10 NATIONALLY TELEVISED GAMES... the Cajuns got their brand out on a national scale, big-time.

And, with you being an ODU fan, you may appreciate that the SBC Tennis Championships in its entirety will be shown on ESPN+.

The timing of the exposure was outstanding. Hopefully ESPN has a new found respect for the conference after solid entertainment during the lockdowns. More options to choose from paid dividends for the mouse. Hopefully this performance and the new additions translates into dividends for the Sun Belt.
I though FloSports had something to do with R Kelly.

My friend, CUSA.tv was not free. Cost ike $8 a month or something
I'm really looking forward to getting back on ESPN. At least then I can sign up for Hulu Live or YouTube TV and upgrade to ESPN+ for four months.

The C-USA media package is unbelievably convoluted and obnoxious. For football, you need a cable package that has Stadium, FSN, and CBSSN (which typically aren't even all available and best case are on different tier levels). If a game is listed as Stadium or CBSSN, you then need to figure if it's on regular TV or on Facebook. If it's on Facebook and you're watching on a Fire Stick or Roku, good luck figuring out which stream is the legitimate one out of the dozens of bootlegs.

And if you're traveling and want to watch a game at a sport's bar... That's just not going to happen.

That’s what I was gonna say. And that’s what is a killer fir coosa: there are often times when you have a marginal interest in watching a game other than your own team/conference, yet when it was coosa game that was not an option. No way I’m paying another fee to do so. And based on the actual numbers, there are LOTS of other people who feel just like I do.

I would always just listen to the local radio broadcast.
You guys had to pay to watch a game on Facebook??? I wouldn't do that. Give me cable any day, if I am paying. If it's ok free, I could put up with it.

If you don't like the TV announcers, you could mute the TV, and listen to the local radio broadcast too!! I have an aunt who does that with Georgia Dawgs games.

That's what I would do if the feed was on FB or Stadium. THe announcers were usually (not always) unprepared and a little biased towards the Market schools. If the game was on CUSA TV I would just listen to the Radio, I never paid the monthly fee because I didn't think it was worth it.

Yeah once it was reported the four teams joining the Sun Belt I started looking to watch a lot more of our future conference mates the rest of the season and even other G5 games. Really got a taste of how much easier it is to watch Sun Belt and AAC games than CUSA or CAA. Even with the FloSports subscription, if I wanted to watch a JMU game and some other game relevant to the standings at the same time it wouldn't let me watch more than one thing at a time. Just an awful platform to be on for anyone who actually wants to grow their brand even if you ignore the terrible quality for the price.
