I would have used it as an excuse to skip school too.
It's because a downstate judge issued a restraining order against the governor's mask mandate in schools. The restraining order technically only applies to the 170 districts named in the lawsuit, but people are taking matters into their own hands.
My county is a small town, half urban and half rural.

My county's 2 urban schools districts already said that they're keeping mask mandates in place (because they weren't named in the lawsuit).

Nearly all the rural districts in my county have said they're getting rid of mask mandates. There's a couple of suburban-type districts that haven't announced yet. This is chaos.

I’d have stood up on day one … I know … I made some cry due to their lack of understanding subject matter…
