Southern Miss. signed a home and home with Miss State (SBC gen board)

When/who is JMU's first P5 football H & H?

I bet NC State, no reason, just may bet
I change my bet to West Virginia (drive Marshall crazy)

West Virginia in Rocktown would be awesome
I could see Pitt coming here.
Virginia or Virginia Tech because in state and maybe political pressure.

I went to the JMU-WV game in 2019 and the blue lot tailgaing scene was impressive. I'd love to see them here but they look booked until 2028. It should be UVA, they have plenty of dates avail. We should offer them a 3 for 2, go there in 2023, 2027, 2031 and have them here in 2025 and 2029.

that would be another school I'd like to see JMU set up a series with, only 4 hours away and they have open dates, too.
How long before the "we need to move up to the P5" starts?

One of our administrators once said they were talking to Pitt. Named them.

Then years have passed and still no game scheduled.

When Bourne says some schools are dodging us, I’m pretty sure Pitt is one of them.
Tough to guess. Hard to say what the new guys in Blacksburg and Charlottesville will want to do. Beamer and Mickey were friends but those boats have long sailed.

Could be South Carolina. Shane Beamer is a Blacksburg native and has ties with former Dukes players and coaches like Stinespring. Not sure what they gain from a 1 and 1…maybe a 2 and 1.

I could see Wake when they come back to Earth. Maybe WVU. Maybe Maryland. Easy driving distance.
I’ll wager it is Duke in 2024. They are P5, but it won’t feel like a P5 home run because they are a bottom feeder. However, if JMU can lump this together with a basketball game, then you have an athletic department home run. Part of JMU’s leverage to get P5 home games very well may be offering to play at their basketball team. Duke basketball isn’t coming to Harrisonburg, but we can fill their OOC home schedule, perhaps for “free” if the football team comes to Harrisonburg.

Dukes host Duke. Book it.
Payback for 2008 when we didn’t show well even with Superman Landers.
I see a lot of opportunities discussed here. All are legitimate. For me, I see Vandy in the mix as well. I'd give it a 75% chance of being a private, but NC State is at the top of probabilities among the public's, simply due to their history of scheduling.
Maybe the dodging for this year was because they feared we were still going to be FCS or at least the perception that we are FCS. Maybe foe next year that is removed.

My optimistic guess is UVA in 2025. I'm betting they're a team that's still dodging us even in their house though so my more realistic guess is Rutgers somewhere around that same time, they have a lot of openings once you get to 2024 and they're a more winnable P5 like Bourne talked about. Even that might be optimistic though, looking at who has openings there aren't a lot of P5's in our area to shoot for without getting close to 2030.

I also agree that Pitt seems like one of the stronger possibilities. The Twerps also seem like a good one to go after starting 2025.

Hope for Southern Miss's sake they got the 1st game. Seen several instances where the return game in a P5 vs G5 matchup gets stood up.

I don't really think the P5s dodged us this year. We announced our move very late, and by that time there wasn't a single P5 willing to take on a road game. There were only 3-4 P5s with any openings at all, and all of them were trying to find another home game.
By stalling on a move to FBS for as long as possible, JMU largely missed out on most P5 home game opportunities in the near future. The trend of scheduling games 10+ years into the future is relatively new, but a lot of P5s now have their one OOC road game booked pretty far into the future. On top on that, a couple regional P5s have very little incentive to travel to JMU. VT and UNC are both getting JMU at home for an FCS guarantee price through 2028.

I think we'll do fine with getting P5 schools in Bridgeforth in the 2030s, but we missed the boat P5s in the near future. Rather than scheduling a 2-1 with UVA like Coastal Carolina, JMU's leadership preferred a home and home series with Norfolk State. We're on the right track now, but it's going to take time to recover from years of failing to move up to FBS.
i am willing to bet, without any research to support it, that JMU may be one of the best geographically positioned schools in the country for FBS travel, via bus.
how many FBS schools can we reach via a 6 hour or less bus ride ? has to be a ton.
maybe a geography major will chime in.

Oh, really? “Stalling”? 07-coffee3

Sure enough, someone has missed the boat, but it wasn’t JMU FB.

JB said in the presser that there were 3-4 fbs "national" teams he contacted that were unwilling to play us, even at their home. He referred to MTSU as a "regional" game.
