6pm tip on CBSSN. After 2 demoralizing losses we need a bounce back in this one. I think Painter is expected to be out from his injury from the floor at Towson. With him they will be a near 100% guard only team that will fire them up. We will need to defend the 3 especially Allen and Nelson Jr. They are good off the dribble and will attack us. We have to stay in front.

Last matchup they crushed us early and we fought back like crazy. We should be able to exploit them down low with Amari/Butler especially with Painter. But our guards will have to step up in defending. I am guessing we will see a bunch of Juric trying to cover one of them. We really need this one

Drexel- 73
Delaware- 72

Vegas: UD -5
i would say the lack of responses says everything about where we are with this team.

what i'm looking for are some adjustments. we know they like the midrange/perimeter game. what will we do different to defend it? the women's team tries to put more size on the outside to gets hands in faces. we've also doubled or trapped out there. a press cuts down on the amount of time they have to get the open looks they want in the half court.

offensively...i'd like to see more of tre brown. i'm convinced now more than ever that cam isn't a point guard. we need somebody who can...consistently...keep our guys under control when the other team is coming at us. we should be able to attack teams in the post with amari/malik or bomb away from 3. there's no excuse for not doing either one in the second half of the last 2 games. we have to stick with the game plan...whatever that might be...and focus on matchups that are more favorable for us.

Man, I'm now convinced more than ever that Cam is a PG. Annnnd we have a discussion for the pod now.
i think the comment from mike about northeastern not having a point guard made a light bulb go off for me. it was a better way to explain it than they have 5 guys that are essentially the same.

we have 9-10 guys that are a little bit different. the trouble has been putting them together or taking advantage of what they can do...throwing in the wrench of them being inconsistent. the responsibility for that is the coach or the coach on the floor...aka the point guard.

Thought it was going to be about the Blue Hairs complaining about missing the early bird special because they have to travel to CAA championships.

As for the game in a few minutes, it'd be nice to finish this trip out at 2-2. I really don't see any reason that this team couldn't finish out the rest of the season 9-0 other than it's this team and they just never seem to consistently put it all together. But I guess winning a couple of more road conference games and maybe sneaking to .500 or a bit above, in conference or overall, is continuing signs of "growth."
up 45-36 at half. Amari at the buzzer form 3 was huge. Good half overall. Really good shooting but we never pulled away. Need some stops. We have a chance to put them away early
In the final minute, I was thinking about how Drexel must be the worst team in the league in the final 2 minutes of the first half. They had so many chance to go up 8 or 9 but couldn't break UD's zone. Then Nelson has the ball with 7 seconds left, and I'm thinking that UD will bring it down to 3 or 4. Fortunately he dribbles out of bounds and Amari hits that miracle shot at the buzzer. That's the first time I can remember in a while where the half ended with momentum for Drexel. Usually it's the other way.
We finally closed one out! It never really felt in doubt either. 2-2 on the road trip.
That was a huge win. They showed a lot of poise in the 2nd half, which they didn't do the last two games. They were clearly intimidated by the crazy crowd at Trask. Not the same type of crowd at the Bob.
76-68 final

Delaware had no reason to leave their zone. That was silly. We were struggling and they came back, then they abandoned the zone and our lead grew back up. It was frustrating that we had to fight through an awful lot of contact with no whistles, and we could barely touch them. Glad were persevered through. 2-2 on this road trip feels like a win, but the 2 losses still sting with the manner in which we lost

Inglesby was terrible today. No pressure, left the zone when DU looked like they'd never seen one before... Game shouldn't have been winnable without Painter but we left the door open by never trying to abuse Carr. Wasn't exactly a thrill show from Spiker either letting JB take 15 foot fadeaways when UD had nothing inside. 1.188 points per possession is nothing to complain about, but if they take Carr out of that game its a walk in the park.

Thought Jameer Nelson was off his game once he took the shot to the head. WOrth a note, they should get physical with him if they see them again in March.
UNCW lost to Elon! Drexel is one game out of 3rd. Drexel vs Hofstra will be a fun game next Thursday!

Yep. But see my post on the CAA thread. They're also 1 game out of a tie for 7th and 8th. So they've got a long way to go here.
Bah Hum bug lol
agree on all counts and would say spiker outcoached his opponent. i'm relieved to say that. melik was our hot hand so we got him the ball. we dared them to beat us down low and they couldn't do it. carr could only keep it going for so long.

i was hoping to see how we would handle a press. it was pretty weak from delaware. they threw maybe one half hearted trap and then backed off. i'll take it.

you do start to realize that we've played some of our toughest games. there's a potential to go on a run. can we show any kind of consistency though? i think it starts with figuring out a blue print for how we want to win, starting there, and then making teams take it away.

looking back...it was really the w&m game during this stretch that was a problem. not that blowing 14 and 18 point leads was much fun...but we needed that game for standings purposes. there will be no easy games and even northeastern could come in and knock us off next weekend.
I would love for them to be able to finish 6-2. I think that's about the ceiling; the conference is too much of a grind for me to expect 7-1 with the level of inconsistency we've had. After all the close losses we've had, 16-12 overall and 11-7 in conference is an alright place to end up.
I'm just hoping for 5-3, and then 3-0 when it really counts. The seedings don't matter that much as long as you don't finish 8 or 9. Since 1 or 2 is looking unrealistic, 3-6 seeds would be ideal acceptable.
Anything that pins us against towson only in the final is ideal. Thats the only team that should be a problem for us, on paper. Hofstra wont be much fun either. I still believe we are the most talented team in this conference. But our reliance on 3s and inability to defend pressure and zones will be the defining way we lose
