Maybe because I'm old school, but the only bowl that is a big deal to me is the Rose Bowl! I was watching Ohio State and UM at season end and was thinking how all the CFP stuff just doesn't matter to me and how much better Ohio State fans had it to be in Rose Bowl.

I definitely liked that there was Big Ten vs. Pac 12, and no other conferences team in Rose Bowl this year. I know some might think if my Spartans really had a chance to win CFP, I might feel differently, but for me I wouldn't if we had a chance to win the Rose Bowl against Pac 12 champ.

So like Citzen Kane at the end all he wanted was Rosebud and for me Rose Bowl.

I'd love to hear what your thoughts are about what means the most to you at seasons end.

The Rose Bowl is definitely one of the magical events of college football. I totally understand your stance on this as I too love this game.

It's been a part of this region of the country for many decades. Those on the main board will argue it's holding up progress, it probably is, but it's not something that is easily changed due to the history. Of course other schools from other conferences have played in this game, it's just never been their bowl game the way it has for the PAC and BIG.

I also see both sides of the argument. One thing that stands out is simply the realignment of conferences and new teams coming on board. I really don't think the Rose Bowl is as cherished by Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Nebraska, Utah and Colorado as it is by longer standing members? Maybe I'm wrong? My point is, change is constantly happening in this sport and currently at rapid speeds. The future is cloudy, do you hang on to history or roll with the changes? Quite honestly, I see positives in either choice!
To me, the Rose Bowl is nothing more than an annual New Year's parade held in Pasadena, CA. I watched it since childhood but not the football game itself. But now that Maryland is Big Ten member, I'd prefer my Terps being in the Rose Bowl over being in the playoffs for the simple reason that I'd like to watch the parade in person.

I wouldn't go that far. It's still a destination for the Big Ten and if you can't get to the Playoff sure you want to be in Pasadena on Jan. 1/2.

I actually have been to the Rose Parade (not the bowl) before. Ironically it was 2002, the year Illinois won the Big Ten in football but didn't get to play in the Rose Bowl because that year the Rose Bowl was the national championship game. I just wanted to see the parade and I was visiting a friend in college that was living in Los Angeles.

Very interesting perspective! I hope you get your chance some day, NJMDTerp.

That makes sense, so what would you guess would be the best Bowl for ending season for their teams or your team? And against which opponent?

It would still be the Rose Bowl, there is nothing better.

My point of those teams not cherishing it as much was more toward "progress" and how the Rose Bowl can/has interfered with that. Those schools would probably let go of the Rose Bowl a lot easier than others in the event it had to be sacrificed for an expanded playoff. I love the Rose and what it's stood for. Times are quickly changing, bowls may not mean a damn thing anymore, and as soon as tomorrow.

Don't be surprised by anything about to happen with college football. What was once completley unthinkable has already occured and god only knows what's next!
A successful season to me is a Big Ten championship. Penn State is one of the most storied programs in college football history and should be competing for (and winning) championships.

If we manage to make a NY6 game, I don't really have a preference but I guess I lean towards the Rose Bowl. However, I'm pretty nostalgic over the Fiesta Bowl.

Why not the Sugar Bowl? It was our first national championship.

We lost three of four Sugar Bowls. We won a National Championship in the Fiesta Bowl too and are 7-0 in the bowl.
