Remember also that we are somewhat restricted in how we can respond to anything because our usual response is to send a carrier task force, and international law (Montreux Convention) says we can't send carriers into the Black Sea. I suppose we could try to get Turkey (who controls the Bosporus, Dardanelles, and Sea of Marmara) to let us send one through, but that could easily be looked upon by Russia as an act of war--by us and by Turkey.

Bottom line is that there isn't really a whole lot we can do. Supplying Ukraine with anti-tank and anti-air weapons might be the most we can do. But we should be wearing out the diplomatic channels trying to work out some kind of deal.

Wait, I thought the disastrous pullout in Afghanistan signaled the end of our military being involved in decades long wars. I would swear I heard words to that effect issuing forth from the non sensible mouth of our disaster-in-chief.

If I didn't know better I'd swear this administrations sole purpose is to weaken us as they start WWIII.

And don't forget China is flying their warplanes near Taiwan right now as well.

Correct. The media and speaker Pelosi can blanket the nation with propaganda pumping up how great Biden is—-but the rest of the world knows a weak frail dementia riddled leader when they see one—-and they will act accordingly. As I’ve said before, Putin likes easy wins. If you telegraph you won’t fight ahead of a move—then he’s going to make the move knowing there are no real consequences. He can easily get rid of any future sanctions (assuming NATO is even able to agree on much more than a watered down sanctions package)—by simply threatening another invasion elsewhere. He’s not crazy or stupid—-he’s simply taking advantage of the a reluctance to counter force with force by taking the low hanging fruit where he can easily assemble a substantial force advantage. He will continue to do so as long as the world lets him. It is what it is.
