This guy from HERO Sports has been pushing the Monmouth to Colonial since the start of the new year. They were in the Northeast Conference and shifted to the Big South in recent years.

That would be good for Monmouth
That would make a lot of sense. I expect they'll eventually wind up a full member of the CAA if this comes to pass.
That would leave Big South Football at:

Full members:
Campbell
Chuck South
Gardner-Webb
Hampton
NC A&T

Associate Members
Robert Morris

ASUN Associates
Kennesaw State
North Alabama
Another swing and a miss for the Patriot League, now 22 years since they've talked anyone into joining.

They have just five all-sports members. As few as one departure and the league is defunct.
To me that indicates that JMU's Olympic sport replacement in the non football portion of the CAA will be a school that does not have a football team

Or

Monmouth is joining for all sports in addition to football

If I were Robert Morris, I would be seeking a sweetheart deal from the OVC in order to preserve their league
I’m curious why they need Monmouth for football. 11 works just fine with an 8 game schedule (you play 8 of your 10 mates).

I can’t see Monmouth as a candidate for full CAA membership.

Me neither

To me this indicates that the CAA is looking at a southern non football replacement for JMU with Monmouth balancing out the football side
Everytime TexasTerror starts a new thread, I know we're about to get sourced realignment rumors.

Big South will soon be left with no option but to cannibalize more from the MEAC.

KSU and UNA are gone to the ASun football league this fall.

KSU and UNA will be playing ASUN football in 2022 as Jax St isn't departing until 2023 unless something really drastic happens to move them to CUSA early.
Monmouth has been rumored to be JMU's replacement for years. Guess those rumors has legs.

Happy to contribute in such a way!

The MEAC and Big South are in quite a position, aren't they if this Monmouth move occurs and the MEAC is already in the position regardless.

I am just not sure how many Division II programs are out there for their additions. The Southland is running into a similar issue as they have thus far only been able to secure A&M-Commerce though Angelo State is the "hottest name" being thrown around.

There's that Division II move up thread that David St started but alas, there's just a lot of random schools on there and most of the ones I can foresee moving up are basketball institutions without football!

Monmouth is a pretty decent basketball program. King Rice has done a really nice job there. Just haven't made the tourney. Would kind of balance out the league geographically- where currently they have only 4 northern schools in Towson, Delaware, Hofstra, and Northeastern. Would make it 5/5.

That is why I listed them separately.

ASUN though only has for football
UCA
EKU
KSU
UNA
and joining
APSU

With JSU leaving, they don't have enough for an auto-bid unless they poach another, and quickly.

The Big South sponsors soccer and baseball so they don't necessarily need football. They have played as a non auto bid qualifying conference before

If Big South football does fall below the qualification minimum, having their teams affiliate with the OVC and/or MEAC would be very helpful to those struggling leagues

The Patriot League isn't trying to expand though.

If the ASUN adds football with JSU for one year and is then non-compliant in 2023, would they still get the 2 year grace period? If so I think that the ASUN could find another football member by 2025.
Here’s my head scratcher—the CAA could use another member. CAAF has no need for a replacement; 11 works just fine.
