If USM president’s cap is any indication of 2022, then the vote in a few days is a rubber stamp.
At this point I think it's a foregone conclusion that the SBC teams are leaving this summer. The vote on the 26th is probably just a formality.
And wearing another schools apparel. USM fans should be embarrassed.

Annoyed yes. Embarrassed no.

He was at Georgia as their VP of Student Affairs before coming to USM. If he wore his Alma mater’s face mask, I’d be embarrassed (@MTSU COGS)

Should pay the leaving early penalty$$.

Which is?

Actually if my understanding is correct, the Sun Belt teams are actually raising the “exit fees” for AAC departing teams. Our CFP payout will rise on a per team basis with those three gone next year and the AAC departures won’t get any cut of that raise nor their own cut. So in reality, we are getting additional dollars out of it.

See ya and thank you for the extra cash USM.

That would be unfortunate.

At least for Tech.

We are. We’re foregoing The next two years of distributions from CUSA regardless. Next uninformed dig, please.

Just got a text.

Exit fees were waived for USM, ODU, and Marshall for early exits.

USM had to make a sacrifice.. We have to give up earnings on the concession stand during the baseball tourney to be held this year, but it'll still be in Hattiesburg. Judy bargained hard.

My understanding was the wording reads that the exit fee will amount to two years of conference revenue. Foregoing the distribution is just the simplest way to pay the exit fee. My guess is a buyout of the final year will occur and I'm sure the SBC will help (even if that's just waiving any entrance fees or graduated conference revenue share) given that the rush is simply to get the most from the mother-ship in the new contract and not give "free" content with the additions.

Exactly. Now if the teams leave early how it works is beyond me or anyone here I suspect.

I also suspect that if it makes financial sense to leave early, USM would do that as well. I don't think we'd do anything to be a burden.. The people in the know are being tight lipped. We may know what the deal is come Jan. 26th or after.

Yep. Point being, we're going to pay something either way, and not getting off scott free.
Once again, whatever happens in the future, I wish every school well…
Salary cap talk, recruiting talk, early exit fee talk and NIL talk have ruined sports conversation.

I agree.. You forgot politics in sports.. I really hate that. Sports are supposed to be entertainment and not political statements.

Bold comment from a school with a president too embarrassed to wear their colors. You’ll fit in great with the Sun Belt and the rest of the schools that “know their place.” I would tell you to enjoy mediocrity but you’ve been wallowing in it for the past decade so you are already familiar.
