28-0 Bisons up on Montana state
I think we can be proud of the effort we gave at NDSU. They're out of everyone's league at the FCS level.

Yes very proud of our Bucs. We did as good as anybody. NDSU is just on another level.
While that's all true.............in fairness to Montana St., their QB was injured on their first drive and couldn't return. Their back-up QB, as I understand it, is in the portal. So they were short-handed where it hurts the most.

But the QB who entered was a former starter. It didn't matter; the NDSU offense dominated and that freshman QB who started (who hadn't started til the playoffs) couldn't have kept up.

Ditto! We actually played them closer than Montana State, so does that make us # 2?

On a different note, one would think NDSU would want to move up to the FBS level.

Why? They are successful, making money, can dominate at this level. They move up it is going to cost a hell of a lot more, doubt they can meet and keep attendance standards.
So Why go from a top tier money maker at this level to losing money and not winning at a higher level?

They could go to the FBS and literally go undefeated for the next decade and never catch a whiff of a playoff or national championship. Sometimes you have to know who you are in life and embrace it. FCS obviously matters to their fans and they get to play 15 big games a year. I don’t know that they could maintain the excitement when the only reward you can earn is a exhibition bowl game against a 6 win Big 12 team or 3rd place Sun Belt somewhere in Alabama. Outside of the CFP, FBS is just a build up to a meaningless exhibition game that doesn’t even matter to a lot of the players anymore. It will never happen but I would love to see the P5 break off and the bowl system die off in exchange for a real playoff. It’s a joke to act like teams like MTSU, WKU, App, NDSU should be in the same division. Oh well…..05-deadhorse05-deadhorse05-deadhorse

It’s a joke pretending that MTSU, WKU, ULM, and most of the rest of the Group of Five are in the same division with Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, etc., and most of the rest of the Power Five while grouping them all together for the statistical breakdowns. And, what you say about this phony system is right on, dead horse or not, in that NONE from the Group of Five will ever play for a national championship (in our lifetimes). But, ESPN has created this bowl illusion, with the manufactured perception that this is by far more prestigious than the FCS playoffs, as these pretenders chase after it.

Going FBS does come with some limited opportunities not available to FCS. Appalachian has been able to host some big name opponents in Boone like Miami and UNC will go there next year. That’s cool. JMU may get VT or UVa to come in for a 4-1 deal or something. That’s about all they can hang their hat on. That becomes the point of having a football program. You get an occasional big name to come to town. NDSU might get Wyoming or Nevada at best.

You can’t make an argument that the bowl game matters much. There are so many to go around now that it’s not even special. The matchups are awful. Win the Mountain West with a 10-2 record and get rewarded with a game against the 8th place PAC 12 team.

The CFP people just rejected an expansion. They’re going to do as much as they can to keep another Cincy from crashing the party.

They’re out of there (Group of Five) to the Big 12, as you undoubtedly know as Alabama rudely introduced them to the big time.

Okay, That is going forward. I was talking about (the recent) past. It has already happened. That was my point

Yeah, in the future but now, when they did make the playoffs they were Group of 5, which was the point, a Group of 5 school did it.

Oh my Alabama beat the hell of of team? Really? That never happens.
So by you logic and going by the score Michigan didn't belong either because Georgia beat them as bad or worse than Alabama beat Cincinnati.
You could even say Georgia doesn't belong because Alabama just took them to woodshed as well.
But okay..

Let me get real specific — Cincinnati is not playing for the national championship, and I stand by my original position — no Group of Five team ever will in our lifetimes unless college football is turned upside down with many of the current Power Five schools either dropping football or moving to the equivalent of what is now FCS football.

Well if you are only going by championship game then the VAST majority (90%, more) of teams will never play for one. Since 2014 (start of Playoffs) there have been 8 games (including this year)
so 16 slots.
Total of 6 teams.
Alabama 6
Clemson 4
Georgia 2
Ohio St 2
Oregon 1
LSU 1

Opening up the other 16 slots who made the playoffs (including Cincinnati) would only add 6 more teams.

Staying only in Championship games (which seems to be your point?????)
If if you go back to BCS, the Bowl Alliances etc,, you are only adding 11 more teams So 17 teams have played for the national championship since 92..

Can they when they join the Big 12?? Just curious....
