Frank is on the phone with MVC Presidents to tell them to think like a University President. ;
Sounds like someone is about to move.
Early congrats to Murray State.

This has been a long time coming for them

Yeah, huge congrats to them. Their fans have been dying for this for years. One year at Arch Madness, people brought signs for the MVC to add Murray St. LOL
Here's to hoping that's the case. Remember the last time they had a BOR Meeting live and approved everything and STILL got bypassed? Let's hope it's not a repeat.

Updated the title. This one’s over, folks!
Tough pill to swallow if you’re the OVC. I think we’re about to see Tenn Tech, Tenn St, and others start scrambling.
This long-time fan of Belmont and Tennessee State (my mother once worked in the OVC office under then-commission Jim Delaney) will offer some thoughts later tonight.

Major news, indeed.

I’m a little confused by this statement, which was random:

Quote: When reached for comment, ASUN commissioner Ted Gumbart told Extra Points that the league is unable to comment on school membership issues.

I’m not sure if Matt meant to put MVC commissioner Jeff Jackson and made an error, or if there was a preceding paragraph about a Murray/ASUN FB affiliation he forgot to include.
Looks like the actual on-the-court product mattered for once.

I still think UIC is going to be school #12. The MVC can’t afford to be out of the Chicago market at this point.

My guess is that Murray St football was rejected by the MVFC and is likely ASUN bound but it’s not official yet.

This drops the OVC to:

EIU
SEMO St
UT Martin
Tenn St
Tenn Tech

SIUE
UALR
Morehead St

1 if not 2 of those football schools are likely ASUN bound.

Nah, that was me typing too quickly. Between this, this tax story, and school being closed...it's been a hell of a day, friends.

Post is updated to include the missing sentence.
I'd love to know how the voting went. Clearly, MSU/ISU/ISU/UNI/Evansville put their foot down and got Murray in. I wonder which of SIU/Valpo/Bradley/Drake joined them. Even if SIU switched their stance from 2017, Murray still needed a vote from Valpo, Bradley, or Drake.

As I LR fan I have been saying for a few weeks that I hope the OVC has a plan. Hard for me to believe that LR would have committed to the league without some assurances of what comes next (i.e. I think most expected Murray to leave).
There seemed to talk that Grand Valley State be in OVC for all sports.
So is Murray St. fb going to the MVFC or the ASUN?

No info on that. No word if the MVFC is extending an invite.

I'll bet it was nearly unanimous. It seems like what the MVC did was determine needs. The top need wais buzz or relevance. The loss of Creighton, then Wichita State and in succession Loyola --their top programs-- almost certainly put competitive relevance first in the minds of the ADs who pressed that on the Presidents. The idea of adding multiple 200s NET schools with questionable fan support, never mind the quality airport, just wasn't something they wanted.

I get the impression that UTA was not objected too. Had Loyola remained they might well have been the choice. But Loyola took out both a top competitive program and a Chicago school. That makes UIC a bigger need. I guess they are tepid about going to thirteen, because the demographic issues that made Arlington in the heart of DFW so attractive to the private schools is still there.

Personally I think decision making based on a number rather than a need or objective is a mistake. But that seems to have happened. Who knows if UTA will ever be interested in joining a northern conference again in the future? That door may be closed forever. That's my SWAG how it went down.
