It is looking like the Gator Bowl is looking to replace Texas A & M with another team. There are no teams with .500 or above records left. It looks like they might invite 5-7 Rutgers, since they have the highest APR of the teams with 5 wins. Rutgers hasn't played or practiced in 4 weeks. The Gator Bowl is 8 days away. Someone pointed out that Rutgers' semester runs later than most schools so their athletes only recently left campus. But, still, they are all likely at home at this point. Maybe the players would love to give up Christmas, come back to the grind of practice, and play in a bowl game they don't deserve to be in. But, again, like always "it's all about the money".

I do feel rather bad for Wake Forest, an overachieving team, that earned a good bowl game for the first time in a while. Still, how excited would they be to play a 5-7 team. I guess more excited than not playing.

I can almost guarantee you that the players on the Rutgers football team would jump at the chance to return to the football practice “grind” as you call it for a few days to have the opportunity to play in a major storied bowl game like the Gator Bowl! A chance to go from New Jersey to Florida over Christmas break to be treated like kings won’t be a hard sell.
Saw this coming. The SEC has decided, because of omicron, it will not make a team forfeit a game if they can't play because of covid. The SEC and other major conferences are going back to the way it was last year where the schools will try and reschedule the games. Have not seen anything about this from the SBC.
