MVC or the WAC? Wish they would stay.

WAC would mean a drop back to FCS, so I hope for their sake MVC . . . and yeah, like you, I’d rather they stayed . . .

Sucks
He along with some others are all pointing towards MVC (which is interesting because I believe he said they were scheduled for presentation on the 18th or 19th)

In basketball what difference does it make? Division 1 is Division 1. Is the MVC FBS?

There is no such thing as FCS regarding anything except football.
I just hate it for the fans since zero of them seem excited or even interested in the move. Time for full island time in San Marcos. Hopefully, we still play in OOC games.

Correct.

There's apparently a MVC Board meeting next week with several schools per Matt Brown slated to present.

It sounds like Kansas City will be there but they are not as highly perceived as the rest. Illinois-Chicago and Murray State if I recall are the others.

. . .point taken, having been part of the WAC while it was still FBS, I hear WAC these days and auto think FCS . . .

. . and honestly, am not familiar with the MVC (Non-FB Conf.) . . just assumed that since UTA was leaving an FBS conference, they’d want to land in a similar situation, especially if they plan to restart Football one day . . .

Really sucks for UTA . . . .

MVC has had some great programs move on to better conferences in the past decade. Creighton to the Big East. Wichita State to the AAC. Loyola-Chicago (Creighton's replacement) soon to the A-10. A LOT of great programs once called the MVC home, going back far enough: Kansas, Oklahoma, OK State, Missouri, Iowa State, Louisiville, Cincinnati, Memphis, and others.

Other programs have been parts of multiple bid years over the past 10-15 years, namely UNI, Drake, Bradley, Illinois State, and Southern Illinois.

It's got a proud tradition. It's often multi bid. There are worse leagues to be in. But I can certainly understand wanting to play schools in one's own region because the MVC is as about as Midwest as it gets.

Yep I agree. I hate leaving the SBC, but I do understand the reason the conference wants us gone. I will really miss all the schools, but I think Tx State will be the one I will miss the most.

When we left the SLC, SFA was the team we really circled on the calendar. Some great games in all sports and a throw out the records mentality. They were generally the highest attended games of the year, save baseball, where Mavs and 'Cats would brawl. UTSA was a solid #2. Texas St and Sam were next up in all-sports, in no order.

We moved to the WAC, we had the runners and cats. I believe Texas St and UTSA were pretty consistent. UTSA moved to CUSA, while we went to the SBC. Looking back then, I remember thinking how I'd hoped we'd play SFA. We played them twice in Volleyball, 0 times in men's basketball, 4 times in women's basketball, 4 times in softball and in baseball, we've played 1-3 game series in eight of the nine years we left the SLC. TO say the rivalry cooled is an understatement.

Meanwhile, Texas St hired Danny Kaspar from SFA, we played meaningful and/or memorable games against each other and the rivalry flame grew. Seeing other schools change conferences and lose rivalry is prevalent. There's an entire generation of college students that don't know what Texas A&M v UT-Austin means. Bedlam is likely gone.

I hope we play Texas State often in the other sports. If I were a betting man, I would not put much on it, though.

WAC and SBC moves made TXST and UTA games mean more. I do remember UTA wasn't the top of list in the SLC days. UTSA and SHSU were up there and SFA was after that with UTA. I am sure we will see y'all from time to time but not too often. We seem to schedule UTSA the most (though less then you would think in basketball and baseball), A&M-CC, and UT-RGV. Rarely see SFA anymore and never see SHSU for oly sports.

If UTA has to change conferences, the scenario I would prefer is TXST and UTA going to cusa. we have a history with latech and nmsu and along with UTEP and TXST we would still be competing with schools our fans know. I'm just not too excited about match-ups with Indiana state and southern Illinoise or UNI Drake.

They've been here how long? Plenty of time to add football and secure themselves as full members. You've been competing with them in basketball with a drop of their basketball budget. Don't cry for them. Not hating, just saying this is of their doing and they're aware of that. The time to secure the future is not after you catch up to it.

CUSA would have to change their bylaws. They are an all sports conference. I don't think TXST would jeopardize their football to follow a basketball school.

I like UTA and all but they aren't worth following to CUSA to play SHSU. TXST might be bad at football but it is not worth a step down.

I don't think TXST would go at this point. Unfortunately for TXST they don't make the AAC primary requirement of having lots of people in close proximity to campus who don't care about your athletics either, so they are kind of an island no matter what.
