Nothing against women announcers but her voice grates on my nerves.
She’s outstanding. Pam Ward was also excellent.
I have not listened to a Beth Mowins game in a couple of years because my team seems to be playing mostly on the Fox channels or the main ABC channel, but from what I remember, it always seemed like Mowins was always getting ESPN's D-level production team.

Graphics shown often had the wrong stats, as well as Mowins facts were sometimes off. Camera shots and angles were limited. Any in-depth analysis you would normally see on an ABC-level broadcast was usually missing from Mowin's ESPN2's broadcast.

I am not sure how much that was Mowins fault and how much is ESPN's? Does Mowins pick her own production team or does it get assigned by ESPN? If they are assigned, how much is Mowins in charge to fix or catch their mistakes? Does ESPN give her a D-Level team because they consider her a D-level announcer?

Pam Ward is a really good play by play announcer. Her voice doesn’t grate. She keeps it pretty simple, calls the plays.. and she doesn’t interject to much commentary or hyperbole.

You are not alone. I read people complaining about her on the Texas message boards.
Lots of people change the channel when she's the announcer.

You know the joke:

First prize in the contest is a DVD of Beth Mowins calling a football game.
Second prize is two DVDs of Beth Mowins calling a football game.
Third prize is three DVDs....
The only announcer I hated more was Brent Musberger. I didn't hate him for his voice, but because he was an idiot and didn't even know the rules.
At the top of the list of announcers that I always mute is Dick Vitale. He's not as ill-informed or ill prepared as Musberger always is, but I hate it when the broadcast becomes more about the announcer than the game.

I loved Pam Ward and am saddened ESPN doesn’t have her call football anymore.

And future fans are in for a shock 50-100 years from now when they watch the 2012 National Championship and discover the entire final 8 minutes are Brent Musberger being a pedophile over AJ McCarron’s girlfriend.

The sentiment is understood but I think pedophile may be the wrong word here. She like 22 or 23.
I have to agree, there is something about her voice that hurts me ears. Nothing personal against her, when I have tried to listen, she appears to know her stuff. I just turn the volume of watching the game of her broadcasts.
Gary Danielson really grates on my nerves. Whenever Georgia is playing on CBS, he pulls for the.opposing team. I used to think he would be perfect for the Florida Gators radio network.

Beyond annoying, Vitale shows who he favors, The media promotes him because of his emotional antics and over-used cliches. He knows everything about Duke, and tells it even when the Blue Devils aren't playing.
Chris Collinsworth.
Beth Mowins is the worst. Anyone who says she's good is either deaf or being intentionally inflammatory.

The worst is when your team only gets on an ESPN network once every other year, AND that.one.game is Beth..
Listen to Susan Waldman a Yankee announcer call a Yankee game and every other announcer will seem like a hall of famer

The absolute worst.
This thread helps encapsulate what I perceive to be a clear downward trend in the quality of commentators and analysts. I think the NFL has some really good ones (Ian Eagle and Kevin Burkhardt) but we've seen a downward spiral on SNF with Collinsworth and ESPN's MNF fiasco outside of Riddick. Those are just my subjective opinions on who I like but overall I believe the commentators have regressed at both levels.

I think the really good ones did radio. That required a lot more work. Now they start with TV.
