Everyone knows that the Grizzlies will always struggle for national recognition and coverage because they are in a small, unglamorous market. But am I the only one who feels like the Grizzlies are not getting the attention they deserve locally?

This franchise has a ton of momentum right now. They are 4th in the West and have one 6 of 7 with several players out including their best player. They are one of the youngest teams in the NBA, smartly constructed by the front office, ahead of schedule with a very bright future at a time when many of the other contenders in the west are dependent on aging rosters. For the first time, the Grizzlies have a true superstar in Ja Morant getting national attention.

But how much of Memphis even cares? Attendance has not been good so far this season. I'm sure some of this hangover from last season with no fans, vaccine requirement early in the year and so forth, but I have been to some games where there is almost nobody in the upper deck and the lower level less than 50% occupied. Local media coverage and radio talk show callers seem to be obsessed with wallowing in the Tigers misery, to the exclusion of much Grizzlies conversation.

I don't want to turn this into a Tigers vs. Grizzlies conversation, since they have coexisted for 20 years and should continue to do so. But is something out of whack in when our currently-struggling and (apparently) overhyped (again) college basketball team crowds out our ascending pro basketball team? Maybe this troubles me because I know the Tigers can't leave Memphis but the Grizzlies, if neglected and ignored, can move to Seattle or wherever.

COVID still probably has some effect due to some not wanting the hassle of going to the game. Interesting that the Grizz are 4th from the bottom in attendance at 14,202 and 5th from the bottom in attendance percentage but they are 3rd and 4th from the top when they are on the road. People want to see Ja.

A lot of it has had to do with Memphis covid policies.

My son and I went to the Sacremento game a couple of weeks ago, and were surprised to find out that if you're seat is within 20ft of the bench area, you are required to prove that you are vaccinated .... Fortunately we had downloaded the app with our cards on them, but would not have been happy to have been turned away for not knowing this ... we had previously purchased the seats before, and entered thru the main entrance; but now you have to go through the garage entrance for screening then back up to the main level ...

Still I hear you about the Grizz attendance .... we go to our 5 to 6 games a year and thouroughly enjoy our team .... Fingers crossed that the front office leaves this team alone at the trade deadline .... This team HAS CHEMISTRY ... sure wish the Tigers would take a lesson from them ...

That's NBA policy with the 20 feet thing. Grizzlies do it too.
I’ve been to quite a few home games this year. I really don’t understand the lack of support. I get that this team doesn’t have guys like zbo or Tony Allen that are blue collar and the epitome of g&g but what they’ve done without Ja and the climb in defensive rating and efficiency compared to the start of the season is amazing. Role players coming together when the star player is out is very much a Memphis story.
Attendance at the past couple of games I've attended has been better, but by "better" I mean about 8,000 people in the building rather than 5,000.

Memphis has been an NBA city for 20 years now and needs to act like one. I get having crowds at half-capacity when you're in a rebuild, but not when you're 4th in the West.
