Think he made the right decision he wasn’t gonna be able to go pro and yes he probably could’ve transferred to a ACC or SEC school needing a QB but I don’t think it would of been a better option.
Team wise it’s tough, Ahlers is definitely the safest option but it also means we probably lose Mason Garcia.

We will be fine without him if he choses the portal. I wouldn't blame him. Its my understanding that Stubblefield gives our defense fits in practice with his speed in the RPO. Could be an entirely different looking offense with him and our two good backs.

Yeah I don’t think Mason will stay, but he’s had a lot of trouble adjusting to playing at this level and that awful pick he threw against Temple is more evidence he could use some more time before being a starter.

To be fair he only threw 3 passes this entire season, the other completed pass he threw was a TD. I just don't understand why our staff never really wanted to put any backups in at all over these last 3 years just do see them in live game reps to fully evaluate. This year we were in a lot of close games but the past 2 years we had a lot of games where we could have given other players reps to see where they were with development. Right now, outside of Holton we have a lot of unknown at the QB position.
That being said I agree with you, I don't see Mason staying but we will see.

"Garcia will head into next year as a sophomore, but with a redshirt year available as a result of the pandemic. Even if Ahlers is the full-time guy in 2022, Garcia could theoretically serve as the backup and still redshirt and enter 2023 with three years of eligibility remaining."
He could stay and learn, and STILL have 3 years to play after that.

We should have redshirted him in '18 but for Scottie Mo trying to save his job. Otherwise he would be eligible to come back for the '23 season as well.
