In the portal. Was this expected? I always thought he had a ton of potential.

Thought so too, but the coaches apparently didn't feel comfortable with him at LB, and perhaps he was too undersized to be a DE ...
No insider info here, but since I didn’t see him play the last couple of games I suspected this was the case. I believe he started off splitting time with both Allen & Mashburn & over time their production & playing time increased.

I too think Clemons can be good, but our Defensive schemes may not be what’s suits his skill set the best. I hope the best for him in the future.

yeah he came here under fuller to be a 4-3 end. not a 3-4 linebacker. surprised it took this long
just not Memphis good…

I would argue he's plenty Memphis good....if we were still running a 4-3 Def. He's just kind of an odd ball out there right now. He's decent at rushing the passer..just not exactly a great coverage guy (sound familiar????cough cough Mashburn)
This is clearly a scheme issues to me. I thought he was pretty talented as a Freshman and fit well as a replacement for Bryce Huff in Adam Fuller's defense in 2019. He disappeared this year. I thought he's somewhat close to having a Bryce Huff body.

He appeared in 8 games in 2019, totaling 15 tackles. I don't know how many plays he played in. But I know it wasn't much.
Last year he appeared in 8 games, totaling 19 tackles.
This year he only played in 1 game.
Being a Tight End and a Defensive End are the two toughest positions to play in college football.
Why Tight End because of protection/blocks, along with route running ability. However, coaches can convert you into a lineman or drop some weight and convert a player into a receiver.
Defensive End is tough because you have the potential to have a really good career. A new coordinator can flip a 4-3 defense to a 3-4, and you're screwed just off scheme wise. I thought he was a good player.
