The Chicago Tribune usually every years picks who is the best college football team in Illinois. I would be utterly shocked if they picked the Illini!

^^^ This +. Carey's been gone ... how many years? Still a major topic here. NIU doesn't play Illinois ... big topic here. PJ Fleck/Minnesota, same thing. Illinois puts up some fake promo bragging about nothing, and ??? Like your protests are going to make them take it down. Right. Why not give them even more free publicity?

Where is the focus on this board on NIU? IMO, Hammock & Co. are doing what they can via social media to promo NIU. Great job. Didn't STF announce a while back that NIU hired some marketing firm to reach out to those 160,000 Chicago alumni? What ever happened to that? Any success? What are the details of any plan to help NIU fans in Detroit? Where is the Alumni Assn? In the "old days" the Huskie Club would be all over this.

Remember the full page article the alumni association took out in the Trib taunting Illinois after we beat NU? Good stuff.

I could care less about the comments that goes on routinely on this board regarding UI. That's your right. You aren't part of the team. Even if you call them out then in the next breath say you are nervous, basically we would be in a "can't win scenario" w/l had we played them in a bowl.

I would prefer supposedly the official NIU Football Twitter page and moreover a current player, your leader, one you didn't have and need, to not comment about something out of his control. I don't care if this is today's social media world. Want to talk can't win scenarios? I think we have seen it, no? What good does this do? Does this inspire the team to beat KSU? Win a bowl? Make Illinois schedule us? No, if anyone is even paying any attention, outside of a few NIU fans getting fired up, they laugh. Kinda like we do when an ISU says they are better, we are afraid to play them. Laugh probably in addition to their own fans laughing at their school site boasting a 5-7 team. Best team of the 2 B10 in Illinois, great. You get a free Mr. Misty at DQ as a prize in addition to whatever trophy you play for. And I don't know who, if it were anyone in the AD, felt the need to share, comment on this.

Let the fans talk all they want. It's their right, it's entertaining if nothing else. Play football, prepare and win. That's what I want and every fan should want out of each and every player at this time. Focus and be the best you can. Inspire and don't worry about what others say if not directed at you.

I have posted a couple Carey, ex-NIU player comments the past couple weeks as I think it ties into the current team, even some possibly coded comments at the top.

But you are right, for many it is an obsession. And yeah, I think I won't post any more on him, ex-players myself.

I should set myself a little bit right here too. Sure, almost any comment is fair comment on the board. Same with topics. My thing is that there is so much NIU to talk about ... WBB is right now beating Milwaukee, may go 3-1 ... WBB Compass Challenge at WIU next weekend ... MACC vs KSU next weekend ... MBB playing a home game for the first time in whatever on Weds vs. EIU at 7 p.m. (see how I snuck all that info in there?). Lotta NIU going on here.

What do all those "guests" read about when they visit this board?

Exactly. The bantering between NIU and U of I is fun and it takes nothing away from accomplishments. Hope it sparks the rivalry we’ve been wanting from U of I. We literally play every Big Ten team except for them. Nothing wrong with calling them out for dodging us all of these years. I would love to get them in a 1 and 1 situation. It would be good for the state. It would definitely bring the fans out!
