We all know the Colonial decided to ban JMU from this upcoming CAA Tournament after informing the conference of their intent to leave for the Sun Belt Conference. This has been the usual conference protocol in the past.

But this is the first I have heard a conference TV schedule changed to exclude them.

The original CBS Sports' CAA men's basketball schedule was announced Oct. 26, 2021 and had JMU featured in three of the 16 games featured.

https://caasports.com/news/2021/10/24/ca...final.aspx

"January begins with a Monday night doubleheader on CBS Sports Network, as James Madison travels to Delaware and Towson makes the trip to Drexel on January 3. Towson hosts Hofstra for a January 11 showdown, while Delaware heads to Boston for a January 17 meeting with Northeastern.

Five CAA games will be televised in the month of February, beginning with a February 3 clash of James Madison and Northeastern. A Saturday matchup of UNCW and William & Mary follows two days later in Williamsburg before James Madison hosts Elon on February 10."

The schedule was revised as of today.

https://caasports.com/news/2021/11/22/ca...ckage.aspx

"The January 3 doubleheader will now include a game between UNCW and Hofstra at 8 p.m. on CBS Sports Network following the conclusion of Towson and Drexel. Drexel’s game at Delaware will be moved to Thursday, Feb. 3, and be played at 6 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. "

The article doesn't specifically say it but the schedule removed and replaced the James Madison games. I don't know if this is the specific policy that was used in the past or if conference members are paid per TV appearance but this makes the CAA look more petty than they were banning JMU from the conference. Any school looking at the CAA as a stepping stone for a better conference would probably be discouraged to come to the CAA. If this is what happens when you leave, why join? How many conferences have this attitude?
The Sunbelt should take these guys in a year early—what petty, childish behavior
Oh my, the big bad CAA is making life so miserable for poor little JMU.

JMU can’t leave fast enough. No one really cares outside of a bunch of delusional JMU fans. Their basketball team has been an RPI drag on the conference for years. Of course the CAA is going to recalibrate. JMU is leaving. Get over it.
I've been critical of the championship freeze (just in general, not the fact that the CAA applied its already existing bylaw), but this makes a lot of sense to me. These are showcase games for the conference, so they are well within their rights to showcase teams that aren't leaving the conference. JMU will be fine, they're leaving for a better media deal anyway. They'll survive not being on CBS Sports Network a couple of times.
They still have the JMU game vs. Virginia on the schedule. But wow, that's a really FU to JMU, which they totally deserve.

They're actually going to have fewer games on linear TV next season. It's not necessarily a better deal, if ESPN restricts access to ALL of their games, keeping almost all of them off of TV and behind the paywall. This year, JMU is still able to air most of their home games on NBC Sports Washington.
Most people have cut the cord. linear tv isnt what it used to be. Just as many people have access to a streaming site like ESPN+ that they do linear tv. They will have a better media deal next year over in the sunbelt. The CAA puts its premier games on tv to be seen. If a school is leaving and doesnt want to be part of that, why should the CAA showcase that school? That doesnt help the CAA at all. So it makes perfect sense to limit the number of times its on the premier channel of the media deal. In the end the CAA is in business to promote the CAA, not to promote a school that doesnt want to be in the CAA.

They kept it on the schedule because of UVA, not JMU.

Contractually they have to keep one game, so this makes sense to be the game.
The CAA buys these CBSSN games with revenue from it's FLO deal.

With JMU gone, so is a massive junk of the FLO revenue. Anywhere from 35-50% according to articles in the DNR.

I would love to see the FLO contract that was just signed. I imagine there were some clauses concerning membership changes within that contract.
UNCW gets an extra game! JMU don't go away mad, just go away. Let the Sunbelt deal with the overinflated ego of the JMU faithful. The sooner, the better.

If JMU leaving gets us out of the Flo deal a year earlier I would be grateful

Lol, we agree. Clearly, there is no love lost anywhere in the CAA. Happy to be headed to a place where things are different. Looks like 2022 is on schedule.

Hope UNCW can move on for greener pastures as well. Ya’ll deserve a conference that better meets your needs. Always thought the A-10 would be dumb not to add you, but not sure ya’ll want to go all in on basketball like the A-10 does.

That's the entire point. JMU is leaving, the fans need to get over it and move on. You'll miss the exact same championship opportunities every CAA team that has left has missed. The nonsense that JMU was losing two years was ridiculous and wrong from the start, but somehow JMU fans bought into it. As the CAA and JMU separate, the hissy fits being thrown every time actions of separation are taken is exhausting. I swear there must be something about the color purple, because I have never seen two more identical fan bases than EZU and JMU.

I'd let this slide if your only win wasn't against Mary Baldwin. Is William & Mary considering allowing men, too?

By the way, your RPI is 356 out of 358.

Touché. It’s hard to believe that W&M could actually dig deeper in basketball but here we are.

I have to admit, when I saw your reference of 356, I thought you came back over here to boast about your néw national academic ranking.

Good luck to the Sunbelt. Good fit for you guys.

ESPN Plus is cheaper than Flo, and it's hard to be an NCAA fan without ESPN Plus. In addition, some people pay for it as part of the combination with Disney and Hulu.

I'd be shocked if 35 to 50 percent of CAA Men's Basketball viewing on Flo was by JMU fans. Maybe 35 to 50 percent of all CAA viewing including Football. I also don't know how you can measure what percent are fans of a certain school because the only video is by the home team, so the amount of viewers doesn't tell you how many viewers are fans of the home team, away team, or neither. It's not like pro leagues where each team makes video. If you give both teams credit for all of the viewers, it helps teams that play JMU in Football over those that don't play JMU that season.
A nice win for JMU tonight against UVA on CBS Sports Network.

Really nice win for the Dukes. What a great atmposphere and the coliseum is incredible. Figures JMU would finally get their basketball program on track on the way out, lol. I've said before, JMU may end up being better in basketball than FBS football in the SunBelt. IMO, doors wide open for JMU to dominate the Belt in basketball.
