Because i think our recruiting is suspect.

Does he have FBS or FCS offers?
Can he get open?

We already have a long list behind prince and shrop that cannot get open who have height and length. Also, signees riding the bench from the last class for whatever reason.

I don't know. Why don't you and he meet up at the practice facility and go a little one on one and report back

BlazinBham is a true fan though. He goes to almost all of the games, including basketball. He is usually pretty spot on in his analysis..........not a sunshine pumper, but not a total sky is falling type either. I like most everybody on here. I do miss MemphisBlazer though.........loved his basketball insight!
Block me, but recruiting is an issue.
Given the track record with underrecruited juco WRs and TEs by this staff, I think I'd give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Watkins, Mitchell, Shropshire, Johnson-Sanders have all been good players. I think the WR from Snow will step up next season also. We've seen that with every one of these mentioned -- it took them a season to find their groove and then they were really good players for the Blazers.
We’ve had one top 5 class within our conference since the rebirth. Tells me we can get more out of what we recruit than anybody else(pushing guys beyond their perceived potential), but eventually scraping the barrel isn’t going to cut it, and here we are. Currently 13th in conference and 135th nationally. That’s worse than what Callaway and McGee were bringing in.

Yep, and the new football facility was supposed to shoot our recruiting efforts into orbit. Same with the new stadium. Neither has seemed to help much at all. The ranking are no better than what Watson got with no facilities at all.
Dude, FIU has had some of the best classes in this conference since joining it. They are probably the worst team in the country right now and that's with a former Miami Hurricane and NFL head coach at the top. They barely have any FBS talent, and all you have to do is watch them for 10 minutes to see that.

Recruiting rankings are trash outside of the usual suspects. There should be no credence given to them.

The services spend no time on them outside of the top 200 players. They don't. They blanket give every prospect they get a tape on a 2 star or a 3 star, and in C-USA and the rest of the G5, the difference between a class at the 60 range and the 130 range is about 4 higher rated players who are iffy to even show up on campus by fall.

At the G5 level winning is about 3 things: 1) Can you develop talent; 2) Can you sign or develop OL and DL; 3) Can you get a difference-making quarterback, with being the main driver of going next level. 1 and and 2 can get you consistent wins, which is where UAB is now. UAB has 1 and 2 better than anyone in C-USA over the past 5 years, and I don't care what the stars say.
Dude, we literally started the season with walkons in starting spots. Rankings, ratings, etc don’t mean everything, but they don’t mean absolutely nothing.

130 FBS teams. They’ve got us at 135th. We’re being out recruited by FCS schools with new facilities, new stadium, Top 2-3 highest paid coach in our league and that’s the caliber of recruit we are pulling in after 3 division titles and 2 cusa championships. We get by because we played the weakest opponents. Except this season when we couldn’t manage to beat friggin Rice. Rice. You do know about Rice?
Davis had baseball offers from Georgia and Georgia Tech, two of the best D1 programs in the country, and was known in high school as a baseball player probably moreso than football. I'd say that's a steal of an athlete and great scouting by the UAB coaches.
I say he should play baseball.

Kid is a freaky good athlete, for sure...........has a knack of getting open too. UAB's recruiting is better than their rankings, but I still expected a little more with all of the new bells & whistles. We hardly ever get any instate Top-50. That needs to change. Relying on so may JUCO's will eventually come back and bite you.
I actually agree that in-state recruiting needs to improve and have found myself wondering why the staff didn’t seem to be aggressively recruiting some prospects. I also can’t really argue with some of those choices in terms of how they panned out. But yeah …

But to say they can’t recruit is false, and to say they can’t identify the right talent for their team is just ludicrous, and to cherry pick a couple of productive walkons to make the point is just even more absurd and, quite frankly, trash. Our resident recruiting gurus make Charlie Brown seem like the biggest optimist in the world. Everything is terrible, they know all, our coaches are idiots, nobody wanted the players. I’ll take 3 banners, two trophies, and 5 bowl trips and a bunch of no-stars in NFL camps over their expertise, please.

My experience of almost 30 years watching college football recruiting is that coaches who let Rivals pick their recruiting classes become ex head coaches pretty quickly, whether they are p5 or G5. I am sure Butch Davis and Seth Luttrell would trade some recruiting rankings for some W’s.

I've been following it for that long too.........Forrest Davis hotline, Jeff Whitaker, etc. I remember all of those 5-Star OL bust at Alabama back in the day! - lol
