Sounds like a mess. The Tennessee schools were geographically favorable to us. We really need to wait until the dust settles to make any kind of commitment. Adding some of the Louisiana schools (i.e. New Orleans; Northwest Louisiana) would make the league more attractive to me. Glad to see we are talking to somebody.
Obviously, if the Ohio Valley Conference chooses to become a basketball centric conference, which doesn't sponsor football, it would make it more attractive to us. Last thing we want to do is end up in a conference that sometime, in the future, wants to push us out because we don't have football.
Obviously, this is all crazy speculation at this point. But, Southern Indiana U is 6 hours from Little Rock, Lincoln Memorial is 8:30 hours in eastern Tennessee, and Grand Valley (which is said to be the least likely addition) is 10:30 hours away in southern Michigan. Western Illinois is a little less than 6 hours. So Western Ill and Southern Indiana are definitely a reasonable bus trip, and even Lincoln Memorial is not that bad. At least, we are talking to someone and the Ohio Valley is definitely looking at ways to survive as a conference.
I actually think OVC would be a good fit. Not the best geographically, but hey, someone has to be on the border of every country.
Really I don't see a conference that is a better geographical fit.

Problem is we don't know what will happen tomorrow. SEMO would be a close rival but I just saw an article by a local writer urging them to get out of the OVC now.

Lots of rumors involving teams from the Asun, OVC, and Southland. If all survive we will end up in one of them. Southland looks like the most likely to disappear. But with an automatic bid in their pocket they will likely find a way to survive. I guess we could be part of that survival. UNO and Texas A & M CC are 2 non football schools currently in the league.

The OVC is currently a sinking ship, and all of its members are looking for a spot in a lifeboat!

To keep an automatic bid, I think at a minimum 6 schools must have been together for 5 years or something like that.
I've heard something like that, but then CUSA would lose its bid.

Well since we need a lifeboat it may be a perfect match.

Thanks for posting. I saw that earlier and was going to post it when I got home tonight. So based on info from folks that are supposedly in the know, we won't be in the Sun Belt, CUSA, or the MoValley. Those were seen by most as are most attractive possible options. Looks they are very unlikely to happen. We seem far from an answer, but the options are clearly narrowing.
If UCA stays in the Atlantic Sun, inviting us as a travel partner for them, makes some sense. But there are still a lot of moving parts. ASun wants more football schools, so we are certainly not a top option, but may help in other ways.

Maybe something acceptable will work out, but right now it looks like we are headed for the dumpster!
