Total surprise hire by our AD. Good hire based on his track record and history. He already got his OC and DC coaching at UCONN even though Mazzone left. Shocked he signed with us for so little money, but am happy he is here.

There are now only 3 college coaches who been NFL HCs and have multiple 10+ win seasons in college: Saban, Harbaugh, and Mora.

I like the hire since he is already on the sidelines today recruiting and evaluating the current team. One thing Mora said is he interviewed with the governor of CT along with many folks in the state, which means he will get full support. Also, he stated UCONN athletic facilities are as good as any he has seen around the country.

There is no way he is happy with the crap Edsall left behind.

I honestly think the guy is a trash can, but I do hope that I'm wrong and it works out for you guys.

Most of my opinion is just from hearing the guy talk. It seems like the guy has no clue. If you want something more tangible than my opinion, I'll give you this;

Atlanta 2004 11-5
Atlanta 2005 8-8
Atlanta 2006 7-9

Seattle 2009 5-11

UCLA 2012 9-5
UCLA 2013 10-3
UCLA 2014 10-3
UCLA 2015 5-4
UCLA 2016 4-8
UCLA 2017 5-6

Notice a trend? He doesn't build things. He destroys them.

Then lets talk about fit. He's a lower west coast guy that is now going to recruit in the upper East side? That doesn't sounds supper easy. I can't imagine he has any ties or connections.

Yeah sure. There are circumstances in each of those situations thats far more than the records.

The one single fact is the man been in the highest level of football coaching (NFL), and he has been successful, is more accomplished than 99% of college coaches.

Oh, his 2x 10+ win seasons at UCLA is 2 out of the 9 total UCLA had over their 100 years of football. His reign at UCLA is definitely one of their better stretches of UCLA football history. Thats against P5 competition with USC next door, not Cincy's record against AAC fyi. He got fired because UCLA wanted Chip Kelly, which many alums are regretting now.

Also, coaching football is still coaching football. It won't matter if it is East coast or West. I gonna guess a coach who coached NFL teams to playoffs will get a leg up against most college coaches that never got sniff of the NFL job will have a huge leg up in recruiting.

I been watching him talk, and he is
way better communicator than many coaches especially Edsall.

I know you ultimate wish to have Uconn drop to FCS or whatever, sorry but it ain't happening.
This article might put Jim Mora era at UCLA into perspective.

Hell yeah, buddy. I honestly hope it works out. I'm just saying I don't think it does. The East Coast/West Coast thing was about recruiting. IMO NCAA sports is like 75% recruiting based.

I don't hope UConn drops to FCS. I have no skin in the game. It's simply my educated opinion. I just know I would be upset if school hired the guy. If you guys are happy, again I honestly hope it works out. I promise I'm not trolling.

Mora did say Uconn has one of the best facilities in the country. I am pretty sure he saw many facilities as a broadcaster and when he coached in the PAC-12.

CT governor was also involved in his hiring, so that's another positive sign. Now Uconn just needs to win on the field.
Northeast FBS Football..... Where coaches go to die.
UConn about to get Tubervilled.

That's called early recruiting.
I maintain that UConn should drop down to FCS or close football all together.

Jim Mora is a name, I don’t consider it a splash hire. I remember him as a good recruiter that underperformed on the field. He’s been out of coaching for 5 years so I doubt any of his connections are still good. Plus he’s pretty far from his base. Doubt Cali kids are going cross country to play in Conn. His best shot is to build a local recruiting base which has a limited ceiling.

Good salesman, the media will love him. I don’t know what the UConn schedule looks like but he might be able to feast on cupcakes.

UConn football tv deal ends in 2023 I doubt they have good numbers on their own. So I think the next tv deal will probably be a nightmare. Think CBSSN took a shot on UConn and it fell on its face. So I think the coaching change is more about drumming up interest from UConn faithful in an attempt to pad their tv numbers near the end. You generally see a bump in viewership and attendance with a new coach.
