Teams lost to SBC will be improved in replacements. Liberty will be/is better than Marshall. Sam Houston is better than USM and JSU is better than ODU. While coming from FCS, Sam and JSU performance could change with the scenery change in divisions but both would have to be a major bust to not reach USM or ODU caliber.

UTSA, UAB and FAU are blows but losing UNCC, NT and Rice will help the strength.

I know nothing about the current C-USA commish, but I do know I am extremely happy with the current ASUN commish. Ted Gumbart would be a winner to lead C-USA. He is great at running a mid major conference.
But maybe we’d want a power conference deputy to try and make us big time.

ODU is going to be really good by 2023. USM's spiral began when the media deal and their peers left for the AAC. Getting back on ESPN and into regional rivalry games will help them a great deal. Marshall is Marshall, Liberty at this point is not better than them.

Overall, you can't really declare any FCS Call-up as better than an existing FBS team until you see how they recruit and play. Depth is an issue to begin with, JSU is going through a coaching change, for whatever reason, and SHSU has high school quality facilities at the moment. It's going to be a big jump going from where you were to where you're going.

The difference between an FBS roster and an FCS roster is night and day. There is no way to know how a FCS school will perform at the next level. I hope they bring their checkbooks.

Pretty much said the same thing but JMU will have the same issue Sam and us. Everyone seems to be giving JMU a pass as though they will be the next App St without question. JMU is a great program and I believe will be successful in FBS but I also believe Sam and us will be also.

The transfer portal, I hope, makes the transition quicker.

Sorry but UTSA and FAU are not blows to the conference. Don’t let a couple good seasons with Lane Kiffin fool you. FAU has had 5 winning seasons in since moving up 15 years. UTSA has a couple good seasons

Basketball at both schools are awful and their gymnasiums are literally high school arenas. Both having horrible attendance.

The only big loss is FAU baseball which they have been a consistently winning program.

Not to offend our UT system brother but Ootsa is one coach away from being where it was three years ago. Everyone at Ootsa was ecstatic that their current coach got a raise, but hey, any P5 school if they wanted him could come and pay him lots more if they really wanted him. Ootsa is good right now but even like us,UTEP, we've had good years but that didn't last. Ootsa needs to build a real FBS basketball arena and make noise in that sport and continue making noise in football to be considered a loss to cusa.

Don't misunderstand me I will miss all the schools that we've had a history with for many years with a few exceptions from the east side crybaby crowd, oh, boohoo you're so far away. Those schools even had the audacity to want to kick UTEP out of cusa because they thought that their schools was better and that the mileage would lessen. They had some balls to even think it. They came from fcs with a chip on their shoulders from the very beginning. You know who you are, one starts with an O and the other starts with C but more the O, they were insufferable.

Tough place that it is, the thin-skinned and easily offended don't usually last long in west Texas. But apparently they sometimes emerge from their safe places and cry little-girl tears over perceived slights.
