Benson's Belch survival plan

Quote:Truly scary stuff for UL-Lafayette. If there was a mass exodus from the Sun Belt, the Cajuns would be behind the three schools that have been mentioned in published reports thus far the CUSA membership - WKU, Arkansas State, and Georgia State. And given Banowsky's recent comments about membership, I believe they could also be behind USA and TSU.

ULL could be stuck in a league with Idaho, ULM, Troy, Liberty, Lamar, Sam Houston, and Georgia Southern. I would find it hard to believe App State would ever be a part of that.

Quote:update...here is the official list of Sunbelt expansion candidates:

http://www.appstatenation.com/2013/0...on-candidates/

Appalachian State
Delaware
Georgia Southern
Idaho
Illinois State
Jacksonville State
James Madison
Lamar
Liberty
Missouri State
New Mexico State
Richmond
Sam Houston State
Towson
UT Chattanooga

Fugly!

Quote:What a banner day for the Belch!

So kind of Benson to take in two homeless football programs. Good for NM State and Idaho. Bad for the Belch.

Quote:Like ULM, Georgia Southern has no business in the FBS. They are too poor and can't afford to be competitive at the FBS level.

Quote:Give them death (as a conference).

Quote:Has anyone told Benson that putting games on ESPN3 isn't televising them? It's called internet streaming.

Always good comedy relief when Benson is on local radio. Yesterday he talked about what a great TV package they have with ESPN3 and how 18 to 30 year olds want to watch college football on their online devices rather than on a TV.
Yes laTurd suck and can rot. GS is far superior to that low rent regional technical community College.
Can't believe WKU stayed, but maybe they just felt more comfortable and hope to dominate that basically new conference. I don't want to disparage the other teams, but I really hope it falls flat and SBC continues to improve to where the old AAC was.
OH MY GOODNESS. What gold of a thread to look back on. Thank you for sharing.
FIFY!!!

Judy's cusa survival plan

luturd could be stuck in a league with mcneese, sam houston, and tarlington state. I would find it hard to believe Liberty would ever be a part of that.

Always good comedy relief when Judy is in her Jeep. Yesterday he talked about what a great TV package they have with Facebook and how 18 to 30 year olds want to watch college football on their online devices rather than on a TV.
That aged very well.

Still can't figure out why Troy and Georgia Southern were lumped in though??

Both were extremely successful in football. Troy was a dominant team in the SBC for years in football leading up to that point. Georgia Southern was SoCon champs and going to the playoffs. Both programs had great baseball and decent basketball.

Sheesh.

Apparently because they're poor. Not as if they haven't embraced the "shoestring budget" motif as part of their proud history or anything.

But lets not overlook that they were essentially the Alabama of the FCS with their six national titles compared to Tech's...um...one FCSNC appearance/loss
I was going to say maybe we should lay-off on trolling La tech fans further and then I read those posts and I have changed my mind lol
2013...man, what a difference 8 years make.

I think, if anything, your trip down "memory lane" should remind everyone that a bad situation can happen to ANYONE given the right set of circumstances, even if the current situation looks pretty safe. My takeaway is that maybe we'll be able to overcome our current situation as you all appear to have. I just hope it doesn't take us until 2029 to do it.
Little did they know that just 7 short years later they would be getting demolished in a bowl game by a school who is too poor to be competitive in the FBS.

By a coaching staff that just got canned 03-lmfao

I get the LaTurd angst with instate programs it is just natural but the overall arrogance is puzzling, to say the least. You can go back nearly 20 years on the GS board I knew the Belt was going to end up on top because we are in the Mecca region for football. When we dropped NMSU and Idaho it was really a wrap.
Looks like one of the two conferences learned from their mistakes and reloaded with solid programs and the other seems to be making the same mistakes as it's predecessor.

For CUSA, the only program that'll be tough to replace is Marshall. USM might of been tougher to replace 8 years ago, but they've been in a downward spiral.

Sunbelt's pride will be the your downfall, should of poached La Tech while you could, instead you let an elementary dispute get in the way and let CUSA rebuild. You're all kidding yourself if you think Liberty and Missouri State aren't going to jump your team in next realignment.

Absolutely true. You guys will be fine.

This one is probably the best.

He made fun of Benson saying ESPN3 was part of what made the TV package great, and then acted like 18 to 30 year olds would never want to watch football on their phones.

Now, 8 years later, ESPN3 and ESPN+ has become the primary streaming platform for many conferences... ESPN+ has grown to a whopping 17.1 million subscribers... and 18 to 30 year olds stream shows and sports on the their phones all the time.

Wait, so you think that the Sun Belt made poor decisions with USM, ODU, JMU, and Marshall, yet you think we also should have picked you up? We're not talking an 'elementary dispute.' We're talking about an Athletic Director who blatantly belittled regional programs for no good reason and a fanbase who has done the same since day one. Now that your conference is falling behind, we should suddenly let it go to save you?

Nah. Good luck with whatever you want to call that conference. We'll be just fine while we watch LaTech throw a temper tantrum for not getting its way. Best wishes to FIU, WKU, MTSU, and UTEP, though.

I think La Tech and WKU should have replaced JMU and ODU. Leave JMU in FCS and ODU is a new call up that hasn't been successful, so they wouldn't fight like hell to stay in FBS.

Should of went for a kill shot, instead you were petty, hopefully it doesn't cost you.

I agree with you…. No telling what college football will look like in 5 or 10 years….

I forgive you Tech, now C-USA should schedule Sun Belts teams…
If LaTech didn’t exist I don’t know what Cajun fans would do or focus on.

I think the thing that upset Cajun fans was the fact that non or the former Sun Belt teams that left would schedule any of us in anything.. We had a great rivalry with WKU, I believe the last time we played was when they were in the Sun Belt…

Here’s to a better relationship with all the G5 conferences…
The world needs Louisiana Tech. They make things so much more entertaining. Someone has to be the heel and they seem to embrace it. No team likes them, no conference wants them and they seem perfectly ok with it.
