Going to be hard to learn much from that listed schedule unless we lose a few or surprise UT or UH. We could theoretically be a Top 75 club and be none the wiser.

A good test could be vs. Vermont if we end up playing them in FL.

They are KenPom #106 preseason.

Slightly more far fetched (we'd only play them in our 3rd game of the tournament potentially) would be KenPom #120 Akron.
Of course, these KenPom numbers will likely move a decent amount based on early season results. So if Texas State, Pepperdine, or Evansville do really well against non-Rice opponents then they could move up and give us a better idea of where Rice sits.
I really think UH on Friday is an opportunity for Rice.

If we rebound like we did last night, and Houston rebounds like they did last night, then Rice will win.

OTOH if Houston *rebounds* from their lackluster opening night performance, then the Cougars will win.
Too bad we are playing such a weak schedule. How are the future AAC teams ranked besides UH?

Two days later (through last nights games) Houston remains at 15 (and next opponent Southern at 316)…
But RICE has jumped four spots up to 130!

Southern could be ranked higher, too, as they played tough at Louisville on Tuesday, even leading as late as 16:00 to go before being on the end of a 24-7 run and falling by 12.

But I don’t want to overlook tonight’s opponent, heard they might be ok too
Vermont already up to #95 in KP. I really hope we both can take care of business in Florida. Would love to see that matchup, regardless of what happens over the next few weeks.
We have been voted off the island of KenPom.

Looking for a new island, us an UTSA.
10. Houston (up 5 back to their preseason spot)
140. Rice (down 10, but still +4 compared to preseason)
301. Southern (who plays Tulane today)

Southern is now 1-1 like the Owls. Their win was a 73-70 road victory over Tulane. Tulane is ranked 146 in KenPom.

Southern’s opening road loss was to #50 Louisville, 72-60.

Owls shouldn’t overlook anyone, especially Southern on Tuesday.
Rice today bubbling up to 138

I’m with you and don’t see how Southern is ranked so low based on this season’s games

(I realize that last year still factors heavily in to the early season rankings)

After this weekend’s play, Tulane moved up a spot (145) and Southern moved down a spot (301). WTH?
KenPom carries pre-season weighting I think as late as late January/early February.

My guess - and it is just a guess - is that current numbers are 80-90% pre-season.

Not a great night for CUSA yesterday. Unfortunately, we're looking like a single bid conference yet again. UAB (whom I really feel is the clear #1 in this conference with La Tech being bit by the injury bug) had a chance for a top 100 win but came on way too late in a close loss at South Carolina. Marshall lost at home to Campbell, and ODU had a terrible 77-36 loss to Indiana State at a tournament in South Carolina.

UNT beat up on UTA, but this doesn't appear to be a particularly good UTA team.

I guess there are other chances for a solid win, but no signature wins yet for the conference in 2021-22, that's for sure.
I am glad to see this thread keep going, and also felt better about the team after watching UH dominate Virginia. This thread shows Pera is making real progress, even if C-USA as a whole has been slow getting started.

I’d like to also see in January how we compare to the programs we will be joining in the AAC.

So, 6th in CUSA today (of 14).

Virtual T6 in future AAC (of 14).
(No gap between 6-7-8!)

Future AAC still stronger overall and still likely a multiple bid conference (but probably no longer a 4/5 bid conference!)[Image: 95c90fc1f53749b03c9a40888420ddd9.jpg]
