There is a thread on the Sun Belt board from a Marshall fan asking how well teams travel.

ODU football hasn't been top quality in quite some time ... If our fans are reinvigorated like days of old, or close, how well do you think we will travel to the other Belt schools?

How did we travel to CAA games? We were more successful and they were closer, but also none of the non-Virginia opponents were especially compelling, or worth a roadie at any rate.

I'd think travel to JMU will be very good, then a dropoff to the other East teams. I've always wanted to take in a game in Boone so that'd be near the top of my list. Coastal has MB and that's an attractive nuisance.

For the fanbase writ large, hard to tell.
We travel decently well for road games post CAA. I have been to three games that required a flight and one that was a drive out of VA. The NC State game brought more than the flights (GA State, UTSA, & Vandy). We had nice crowds at both UTSA & Vandy though.
We travel well within a 5 hour drive. CCU and Boone are just beyond that. Id be surprised if we took more than 500 to either. Id guess we'll have 1000 at JMU if tickets are available and we are any good. The rest will have 100 or less.
We travel very well, when doing well. Maybe had +3k at GaSo in the FCS playoffs. The usher at NcSt said we traveled better than all but a couple ACC teams. But when you aren't packing the home games, can't expect a huge traveling fan base.
I guess it also depends on which areas have robust alumni groups or at least alumni presence. Like you'd imagine ODU would have decent turnout at Maryland and possibly Navy.

We brought a good group to Wake. The WF fans I talked to after the game were surprised at how loud we were.

I totally forgot about the Maryland game. There was a pretty solid showing in College Park that day. I did about as well at the casino as the Monarchs did on the field.
I don't think we can say anything positive about the way we travel. It's G5-average at best. Every once in a while I'm surprised, but it's not often.

I think it depends on the magnitude of the game. Both are in nice enough locations where if the game is big I think we'll travel well.
It depends on who we play, were the game is, and how goo the team is. This team traveled very well when they were winning.
We have travelled to away games at Maryland, VT, UVA and Fordham (way back).
We had good showings. I am really looking forward to travelling to Coastal and App. State in the new world order...
04-cheers

Travel? ODU's home games look like 3/4 stadium is empty. Travel?

I was at the game when we played Pitt and there was a sizable ODU crowd there. Of course, that was peak Heinicke during our transition year. Also went to a ton of road basketball games when we were a tournament/bubble team and we traveled well. We aren't going to travel or fill our own stadium and/or arena if we continue to suck. But if there is something at stake or excitement around the program, I think we'll travel well to JMU, App, and Coastal. JMU is close and Boone and Myrtle Beach are cool enough places to visit to get some buy in from the wives. Marshall and the Georgia schools are a bit of a stretch to drive and turn around and drive back and not worth making multiple days of it. Kind of like going to Hofstra. Meh. Maybe some people have an affinity for Atlanta. I personally don't like it. Not sure how we traveled there in the CAA days.

Georgia southern is close enough to savanna to make a trip destination for your wife.

Maybe. Love the area (esp Hilton Head) but that drive is hellacious. It's be one thing if it were summer, but not sure I could sell it for November - March and just doing a long weekend. With 3 kids in school that's about all we can do. I could see doing it when our kids are grown though.
I'm in Miami right now and hope there will be some Monarchs in there with me on Saturday.
I know we traveled very well the first time to ECU. Could've Should've won that game with just a little more defense.

Yep. Four of us went down for that game. Went down on Saturday, spent the night in Greenville after the game and came home Sunday. Good trip and good game except for not winning.

We were there too (6 of us) and stayed somewhere (can't remember where) part of the way back towards home. We/ODU also got screwed on some calls and that did not help.
