Dodd claims Marshall choosing between being top dog in CUSA or middle of the pack in the SBC. That's a low blow for a major sports media member like that against a team like Marshall and quite frankly just plain untrue.
Dodd didn’t. A source did.
If that happens go hard for WKU. Don't need Marshall, they aren't special.

Said this in another thread:

According to CUSA: “Marshall could go to the SBC and compete against schools that will challenge them, or they could be the cherry on top of a sh*t flavored ice cream sundae”.
Yes, CUSA leadership, the best way to convince someone to stay is to insult them.
Middle of the pack is one way of looking at it. On the other hand, when your division mates are App State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Georgia State and Old Dominion is it such a bad thing that the top 5 of that division can be a free for all?

If thats Marshalls thinking (not saying it is), why not drop down to the SoCon again? They get the travel of SBC-E and the chance to win every conference championship. Best of both worlds if you ask me.
this is all just smoke and mirrors.

there is no way MU could stay in the leftover CUSA. What a horrendous decision that would be.

the only possible way i could see it is if they have guaranteed assurances that they will be able to join the AAC in couple years when Memphis leaves.

otherwise, it make ZERO sense to stay.

In Arkansas and the Razorbacks have zero titles in 30 years in the SEC football. They would compete much better in the Big 12 or ACC. They choose to stay because the money is better and they get to associate with better programs. Marshall will do the same except that Marshall will be on of the 8 programs that contends in football year in and out.

Marshall can run with and beat anybody in what will be the eastern division of the Sun Belt. They'll have to earn it but if that game with App was any indication with a packed house and a million + viewers watching at home, is that such a bad thing? And right now, being able to beat App, Coastal or Louisiana is a feather in your cap and results in both coverage and AP votes.
I thought I was about to be rickrolled again
"Why go compete in a competitive conference with rivals and fans when you could stay and compete for championships against programs without fans that nobody wants?"

Pretty compelling argument

The AAC was inviting them?

Quit believing these untruths. Geebus, my dog has better tweets. Marshall was in from the get go. We had to follow internal protocol. We don’t look at ourselves as some self righteous institution. That’s the idiots of social media spinning that. And it was all spin. We are in and looking forward to it.
That was a CUSA source that said that to Dodd, not anyone from Marshall. If that was CUSA’s pitch to Marshall I hope we chuckled a little bit when it was delivered.
Here are the quotes attributed to the unnamed source from the CBS report.

These are not quotes from Dennis Dodd or a Marshall representative, if so they would have been sourced as such.

"All eyes are on Marshall. Marshall has a tough decision," said a source intimately involved in the Conference USA discussions before Marshall made its call Friday. "Decide to go to the Sun Belt and be a middle-of-the-pack program in a 14-team league, or stay in Conference USA and be the most tradition-rich program and compete for championships."

"It's a tough call," said that first source said of Marshall. "A 16-team SEC is one thing. You're going to get multiple bids in every sport. In the Sun Belt, you're probably only going to get one [postseason] bid in every sport. It's not a great scenario."

The Thundering Herd on Friday formally decided to join the Sun Belt, sources told CBS Sports, giving the league clarity on which direction it must head.

So can we stop with all of the "Marshall is playing games", "Marshall thinks their special"? I believe for the past week or so, most of the Marshall posters have said it was a timeline process, the new President was named yesterday and one of his very first acts was to approve the move to the Sunbelt!

We are no better than anyone else in the SunBelt... Our goal is to come here and compete. You guys will push us to get better and we will hopefully do the same.

Now let's all enjoy a great weekend of football!!

GO HERD!
CUSA is going to be the new SMAC (Southern Mid American Conference). A conference with no fans and no names that carry any weight. Been There, Done That.

I do feel sorry for WKU, MTSU and UTEP. I seriously hope they find soft landing places, where ever that may be.
Dodd has never been very MU friendly. Not sure what his hold-up is.

The best thing hope for now is CUSA disbands. I personally believe that MTSU and WKU are to MAC. FIU should go to FCS. The only team I feel bad for is La. Tech. Not sure what happens to them.

Trade La. Tech for JMU?

I still don't understand the infatuation with JMU.
