How the h#ll did Charlotte get in over Southern Miss? Did Southern Miss not even apply?

I can name 10 schools I would pick over Charlotte.

Charlotte is a top thirty TV market and North Carolina and South Carolina both have much higher populations than Mississippi.

Wait. Who got in over me?

How come you didn't apply? You don't wanna play with us no more?

Word on the street is Charlotte (whoever she is) has more fans in her household than SouthernMSTiger does...

I was just being facetious again (which seems to confuse folks), this time with my moniker. I'm hardcore Memphis Tigers and for no other team. I just happen to live in Southern Mississippi. I do agree, however, that I would have preferred USM over Charlotte or some of those other teams.

Hell, even I'm a fan of Charlotte (whoever she is) before I'm a fan of me.
I'm sure USM called, but we didn't answer.
They are bad and going nowhere.
Better to take a chance on a "newer" program, that's at least in a metro area.
I have no desire to go back to playing USM.
They are the same as these others, in my game excitement level.

The CA boys - dumb (munz) and dumber (barnes) - mentioned that they hear USM and Marshall are talking to the Sun Belt.
I lived in Hattiesburg for two years. This is just my perspective as an outsider.

It seems to me that USM as an institution has given up. The fans are still there, kind of, but the school is kind of spinning its wheels. Some really bad coaching hires, the addition of several FBS programs in the vicinity (USA & Troy), and the relative rise of the area SEC schools that they compete with have really hurt the FB program. The fanbase is aging, they don't seem to have any really big boosters, and there just isn't the population base to support it.

When they were really good in the past the gap between the haves and have nots was smaller and they didn't have to compete with as many schools for prospects.

Heck of a baseball team though. They really really care about baseball down there.

I enjoyed the FB and BB rivalries back in the day. They were often very competitive in FB and had some stellar years in BB too. But in this new age, Hattiesburg is probably the albatross for them.

This exactly.

AAC is for G5 Dreamers in markets who dare to aspire to move up to P5 one day, even if it’s a ways off & seems crazy today. USM has given up & accepted they can never be more than what they are now & have been shooting the SBC winks for a couple of years now so they can be with like minded schools & take bus trips to all of their games.

Nothing wrong with that mind you, sometimes it’s easier to just know your role & fill your lane.
They have an OCS. Maybe they're going to the Big 12.
