Not the AAC that I was hoping for a year ago.
Beats being left behind again. At least we will be in a better position to move up.
The first conference move for UAB not negotiated by Gene Bartow.

I had not even thought of that
I like the additions of UAB (of course), UTSA, Charlotte, and Rice. If I'm adding two more I'd go for Buffalo and Marshall or ODU.

No we won't. There will be no more moving up after this. We are where we are going to be for a very, very, very long time.
Well UAB is competitive with all of the remaining AAC schools and the proposed new additions as well. Soon to be AAC conference champs if the move happens.

Whatever Nostradamus.
If the ACC or Big 12 decides to make more additions from regional G5 footprint. Behind Memphis, UAB is ahead of all the other AAC schools. SMU is on the back end of their success run. USF has a nonexistent hoops program.

So you want a league where you are better than everybody? Didn't you have that in CUSA?

Umm, if it were me making additions, it would’ve been us, Marshall, La Tech, Liberty, Buffalo. That’s not exactly wanting to join a conference where we are better than everybody. Much of what’s left in the AAC don’t even have a pulse.

My point wasn’t even about being in a league where we beat everybody, it was about being in better position than everybody else(besides Memphis) in the AAC to move up to the P5

Only way we get P5 look is to be in AAC
In a sense, the AAC sorta did CUSA a favor. There are schools that can be added that would make CUSA more cohesive and still competitive. Liberty would be a solid football and basketball add. Look at Texas St or NMSU for UTEP. Bring up JMU and Jacksonville St and CUSA will be fine.
Wouldn't be surprised if when this shakes out there would only be 10 AAC school.

Temple to do what UConn did. They will not have any AAC around them. They will go back to their basketball roots.

Big 12 might invite Memphis, USF and/or SMU.

That leaves:
1. UAB
2. Tulsa
3. ECU
4. Navy
5. Tulane
6. Rice
7. UTSA
8. North Texas
9. Charlotte
10. FAU

Jon Rothstein tweeted that Temple should go Indy to save their basketball program. I will be interested in seeing what Navy does?
Wichita state will be easy addition for big east, probably be added right after Gonzaga
Adding six school from C-USA is shocking. Maybe I am guilty of being a little elitist, but I never thought that we would leave C-USA and our schedule would remain the same.
I like what projects to be our division:

UAB
Memphis
USF
FAU
ECU
Charlotte
Temple

I figure we won’t have permanent rivals cross division, give everybody one permanent on the other side then rotate through the other six every two years home and home.

I dunno if UAB’s cozy relationship with Tulane could get rewarded here, but I’d be fine if the Wave were our Western partner.

I know everyone wishes we were joining the AAC that used to be, but in all seriousness, this is a GREAT setup (caveat: as long as it lasts)

— ESPN
— likely guaranteed Florida road trip every year
— likely guaranteed a Texas road trip every year
— possibly New Orleans every other uear
— we get Memphis,ECU back on the schedule
— Football, men’s basketball get significantly better scheduling leverage

UAB could find themselves ahead of the non Memphis schools with time but right now I'd confidently say you're not. That's just going by what Brett McMurphy reported on the only 8 schools that the Big 12 considered. Boise, Memphis, SMU, and USF were the 4 that missed the cut. But things can change in a few years since the 2016 leaks had both Boise and Memphis not even make the final 10 for the Big 12.
