It looks like the KSU Wrestling roster and schedule have been updated for the 2021-2022 season.

Here is what would seem to be the starting lineup/backups at each weight class:
*125lbs - Jake Ferri redshirt senior starter/Kade Orr true freshman backup Buhl ID
*133lbs - Brendon Fenton redshirt junior starter/Jacob Sherman junior back up
*141lbs - Louis Newell rs soph starter/Mason Wersinger soph backup
*149lbs - Kody Komara rs senior starter/Tyler Johnson rs freshman backup
*157lbs - Enrique Munguia freshman starter/Robert Pryhocki or Trent Tidball backup
*165lbs - Najee Lockett rs freshman starter/James Limongi junior backup
*174lbs - Mike Ferree rs freshman starter/Mike Caniglia junior backup
*184lbs - Colin McCracken senior starter
*197lbs - Tyler Bates rs junior starter/Ryan Boyle or Tanner Clark backup
*HWT - Jacob Cover Ed junior/Spencer Berthold rs senior, Andy Garcia, or Blake Chrisman backup

174, 197, & HWT are the question mark weight classes at the start of the season.

Also of note, is a transfer from Pitt that will be eligible to wrestle @ 141lbs in Mick Burnett. As long as he is academically eligible after this fall he will be @ Kent State for spring semester and moving forward. His WrestleState profile already says Kent State. He is a former Top 50 national recruit and will be a freshman this spring @ Kent State.

Early part of the Schedule =
October TBD - Blue and Gold Wrestle offs
November 7 @ Clarion Open
November 14 @ Mountaineer Invitational, Boone NC
November 20 @ Navy Classic
December 3/4 @ Las Vegas Invitational
December 11 @ Cleveland State Open
December 18 @ NIU
December 21 @ Edinboro

Andrew McNally is @ Wisconsin for his last year of eligibility. Should be a very competitive team this season.
Wrestling poll shows Kent to finish 10th in the 13 team MAC. Ferri ranked first but nobody else in top 4. Hope they are wrong
For those that know, is there a reason Andrassay and this program have fallen off the mat and can't seem to get up? (pun intended)
Recruiting just hasn’t been what it used to be after the loss of 2 key assistant coaches. One went to Cleveland St and now his program is kicking our butt. Many of our best wrestlers are transferring out to other top programs in their junior and senior years (McNally, Conel, Tutolo etc.). Sign of the times. My guess is Kilgore would have won his national championship with Penn St or Ohio St had he been wrestling now. Andrusky relied heavily on the assistants and doesn’t appear to be able to rebuild it after they left.
Patrick Gould 133 , recruit out of Pa . Anybody know why he left and where he went ??
Was on team last year as a freshman
KSU Wrestling lost a few assistants and a few scholarships. I think the scholarships have returned and they have 2 assistants again as well as a graduate assistant.

They have a lot of newcomers (transfers and freshman), which is why I think they were picked 10th, but if they stay healthy, they should finish much higher than 10th in the MAC.

Only time will tell if the newcomers and returnees can help them get back to where they were.

That’s part of the issue. He was considered a good back-up to Fenton and now he’s gone. It’s tough these days.
Clarion open wasn’t an encouraging start. Something like 19-45 overall with quite a few lopsided losses. Our 141 wrestler went 5-1 and placed 5th that was it. Our HW went 3-2 but did not place. Not much else to say.
I looked around and couldn’t find where Gould landed. From his IG, it appears as though he decided to leave KSU about a week ago but the 11/1 version of the transfer portal doesn’t list him. Mick Burnett ended up at Clarion despite all of Kent’s Elyria connections. In addition to McNally (WI), the following left KSU and entered the portal this year:
DeSilva 157
Mutschler 149
Colasuvdo 157
Neu 174
Although we lost our best wrestler via transfer, we increased in depth. To illustrate how impactful the transfer rule is, CMU lost its 125 2x AA on 11/1/21.

We’ve done well at this event in the past with a number of champs. Some of our wrestlers didn’t participate and Munguia took a medical forfeit after the quarterfinals.
We just announced that a 3x state champ from Missouri signed. Eli Ashcroft is from Kearney HS and wrestles at 132 lbs. His school is class 3 but I have no idea what size that is so it’s hard to gauge his level of competition. He has wrestled on the national level so I suspect he’s a strong recruit. However, I don’t see him listed in Flo’s rankings.
Another signing was announced - Nico Calello from Edison, New Jersey. I imagine he will wrestle 125 for us. He finished 3rd as a junior and was listed as a top 10 junior at 106lbs for 2020/2021.

I think that’s too low of a ranking but I understand that a lot of new faces and younger wrestlers don’t garner much respect. I’m a homer but we won’t contend for the title. However, top 4 is possible.
Flashes announced that Billy Meiszner from Orland Park, Illinois signed. He’s a 120lb in high school and although not ranked in the top 30 for his weight class, he did receive special mention in the national rankings. Although Illinois did not hold a state tournament, there was an event in June where Billy finished 2nd. It was his only loss for the season. He has also wrestled on the national level but I didn’t see any placements in my limited research.
Mitchell Broskie was also signed. He wrestles for Dublin Coffman at 175 and is currently ranked 5th in Ohio at that weight. He placed 4th at the 2021 NHSCAs and according to a tweet, he beat some state champs along the way. He’s also a pretty good linebacker
We signed Matt Ellis from Waynesville, Ohio. He’s currently ranked 4th in DII at 126 but did not place at States last year. He did finish 1st and 2nd at sectionals and districts, respectively.
Somewhat better at Appalachian St. today. Seven teams Kent St, Arizona St, Duke, Air Force, Indiana, Gardner Webb and the host team. Kent got a second at 174, with Micheal Ferre and a 3rd at 184 with Colin McCracken.
Also had two fourths.
Kent State wrestling had a pretty good showing at App State. Najee Lockett should be back from injury this weekend.

Mick Burnetts brother, Nate Burnett, is currently committed to wreslte at Clarion and his dad (famous Ohio HS wresting coach) wrestled there as well and had a great career.

Kent State currently has 6 commitments in the 2022 class: Nico Callello (125lber Fri
NJ), Jacob Houp (125/133 from Canon McMillan PA), Mitchell Broskie (184lbs Dublin Coffman OH), Eli Ashcroft (141lbs Kearney MO), Billy Meizner (125/133lbs Providence Catholic IL), & Matt Ellis (133lbs Waynesville OH)

Mutschler went 1-11 last year @ 141lbs and Neu transferred back to WI when he couldn’t beat out Bates and McNally at 184 and 174. Not sure what happened to DeSilva, but maybe COVID took him back to GA? Gould isn’t wrestling right now (I heard he is studying abroad). Colasurda, would have been #3 on the depth chart @ 157 or 165 this season so he probably transferred to D2 where he could start or get more action.
Maybe football recruit Gavin Garcia will try his hand at wrestling as well. His brother Gaige did both at Michigan before transferring to Lehigh and doing both again.

7th recruit signed, Blake Schaffer - Louisville OH @ 174lbs/184lbs. He finished 7th in the state last season @ 182lbs Division 1.
