Why are the Hilltoppers in the Insensitive Division? Someone in the know must tell me.

I asked the same thing. I think the OP must think Hilltopper = Hillbilly? No idea.

I questioned it as well and came to same conclusion. Few know that we are called Hilltoppers because the city residents of Bowling Green in the early 1900's referred to the students that resided on the one big hill in BG as hilltoppers (aka the people on the hill). It's a location reference. It really doesn't fit any other category...maybe the Cultural Appropriation category but that's a stretch. LOL

However, it's a cool thread.

Yea the thread is funny, we should have been in the strange mascot category vs. the insensitive one though.
While WKU's mascot, Big Red, is popular and iconic(ish), I can only imagine when someone first suggested going with a blob it was after a frustrating meeting where nobody had any ideas. I have always wondered why WKU didn't tie into the Mammoth Cave National Park nearby. While it is so named because of its size, a wooly mammoth mascot would be fairly unique, and pretty awesome.

Someone needed to think right outside the box:
