Looks like USM used their 3rd QB of the season yesterday.

They started the season with Trey Lowe, but he only threw 1 TD and 2 INTs in the first two games. They went with QB #2, Ty Keyes, late in game 2, all of games 3 and 4, and some of game 5. Keyes has thrown 3 TDs and 4 INTs. QB #3 finished game 5.

So yesterday they went all in with QB #3 freshman Jake Lange. In finishing game 5 against Rice, he threw for 304 yards with 1 TD and 3 INTs. Yesterday Lange threw for 239 yards against UTEP, with 2 TDs and only 1 INT.

Southern Miss is 1-4 and 0-1 on the season.
Get healthier and let’s go pitch a shutout in Hattiesburg. No reason this game should be close.

We are on our second string QB that’s since been named the starter. We had half our defensive starters out for the Liberty game and we have re-shuffled our O-line. USM took it out on Hopkins for his first start. They mysteriously were unable to play us last year. We were beat by them nine straight years and we showed up every year. We can’t beat them by enough. I want to beat them so bad they go to the Sunbelt.

Agreed! They once hung 70 points on us. We need to make them pay.
There’s nothing wrong with USM that hanging 70 on them won’t cure.

I’d settle for 50 and a shutout. But if we get to 70, that’s cool too.
Running up the score is not something Clark does and I’d be shocked if we hung 70 points. Personally I’d like to see us hit 100
Let's just make this the gameweek thread.

Press conference:

Big news is that he confirmed that TJ3 is pretty much healthy but that Hopkins is the starter. He made it sound like it was possible we may get Moll and Turner back on D this week.

It kind of sucks that there was only one guy there asking questions.
While there are individual games where winning might be more desirable (say, the Georgia game), on the whole there's no one I'd rather see us lay a beatdown on than Southern Miss. Every possible time.

I used to feel this way, but not anymore. Now I just pity them...pretty sad to see what has happened to their program and I still think they are years away from seeing substantial improvement.

Louisiana Tech has taken their place in my heart for this sort of hatred :-)

Fedora is currently unemployed so there’s that
Personally I don't want to run the score up. Bad vibes and all. BUT a shut out would be beautiful!!! It would not only highlight their ineffectiveness but our dominance.

On second thought 50 points and a shut out would be rather nice.
Just to give you an example of how behind Southern Miss is to UAB:

In Southern Miss' last 10 seasons (including this current one), they are averaging 4.5 wins and 7.1 losses per season.
In UAB's last 10 seasons (which includes Neil Callaway's final 2 seasons, Garrick McGee's disastrous tenure, and a full-blown program shutdown), we are averaging 5.6 wins and 6 losses per season.

Last 5 seasons? Southern Miss on average 5 wins and 5.6 losses per season. UAB 7.6 wins and 3.6 losses per season.

The margin would be larger if 2020 was a full season and 2021 stays on the trend.

Every time they get a little bit ahead, they flounder and head back into the depths.
This destructive/roller coaster cycle has defined them for the last decade.

I think they've paid for their hubris as they've had to bathe in mediocrity. :-)
We are going. Hope for a W and also hope that the margin is comfortable so I dont have to cuss, throw my hat down on the stadium floor, etc all night long.
My favorite Southern Miss QB is not Brett Farve, but rather Reggie Collier. In Collier’s four-year career at USM, he guided the team to victories over FSU, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. They tied Bama once at Legion Field, and also beat them in Tuscaloosa.

That FSU game was on November 14, 1981 in Tallahassee. The halftime score was USM 30 - FSU 0. Final score was 58-14.

I would venture to say Ole Miss and Mississippi State don’t play Southern Miss anymore because of Reggie Collier.
I have no problem with running up the score as long as we are letting young guys in there and running the ball. If they can't tackle the ball carrier, they deserve whatever happens on the scoreboard. What I don't support is airing it out and throwing bombs in order to run the score up. I feel I remember the 2013 game having Nick Mullens heaving them late in the game to make it a 62-27 blowout.
Just want y'all to know that I will not be going. As much as I'd like to get back down there, I'm going to take this one for the team. My unmatched unluckiness will not be there to weigh down the team like last time.

...I was in Hattiesburg for the 0-3 game... yeah, I want to hang half a hundred on them, but then again, I've never been as 03-pissed after a game as after that one...

Was that the game we got called for an ineligible receiver down field?
