Saw this on the ODU board and laughed. Sounds like a lot of the same comments I read here, especially about the concourse being full during the game. Seems to be a problem everywhere.

“Sparse ODU Football Attendance Discussion
Kudos to the students they turned out for homecoming. Where are the ODU alumni and fans. Honestly something needs to be done (ok I know winning will help), but is covid still impacting attendance ? ODU AD and others need to get their thinking caps on to help figure out ways to get butts in seats. BTW the concourse party area is packed. Why not start closing that and selling beer in the stadium. ODU fans seem to careless about the game and make it all about drinking and socializing. These coaches and players have been working for two years for these games and we didn't even have a half full stadium. SHAMEFUL. There was NO energy to start the game.”

I think there is a huge generational, life-experience divide in fan bases across the country. Those of us who grew up in the traditional TV/attendance world of the 1970s-1990s watch sports and value sports as an experience differently that people who grew up a la carte with devices in their hands. We see these behaviors in marketing, and sports teams are beginning to cater to that modern fan. Neither approach is better or worse, it's just *different* needs and expectations and desires that are influenced heavily by consumption behaviors unrelated to sports.
I go to the games for the games. I eat prior to getting to the stadium. Fans are supposed to play a role in the games, can’t do that if they are stuffing their face and discussing their golf game over some craft beer. Meanwhile, everybody sits on their hands and has the nerve to look back at alumni like Buchannon, who’s engaged in the game, and expect him to shut up. You can tell most of our folks have never been to a real college football game where you stand the whole time and scream every down.

If you don’t like hearing negative comments throughout the game, perhaps you should be making noise to drown it out. preferably not on offense, you don’t make noise on offense. You idiots.

At one time I had basketball tickets down in the "club" section at Bartow. Got so many dirty looks for standing up and yelling. Jesus, go home and watch it from the couch if you want to be a mannequin.
When I lived in Texas, we went to a couple of Texas A&M games every year. You end up not only having to stand the entire game, you have to stand on the bench if on the same side of the field as the students. Here in Baton Rouge, fans start leaving LSU games in the third quarter and a lot just show up to get drunk outside the stadium. It’s a bit different everywhere.

My brother and I went to the game the year we beat them there. We got cussed all the way into the stadium and then all the way back to our car. Even little kids were throwing F-bombs at us. It was bizarre and actually amusing. I was wondering if we were gonna get some bottles or bricks thrown at us walking out that night. We had a great time.

I had the complete opposite experience.
On the at in, I had dozens of people invite me over to their tailgates
On the way out, I got a bunch of “well, you whipped our arse, huh?”

Not us and we didn't say a word, just had UAB gear on. A security guard outside the stadium heard it and as we passed by he said, "every time they go overboard with that **** we get our ass beat". LOL.

When Chris Brown made The interception, the guy sitting behind me with a toddler in his lap starting cussing and calling us Bama's *****. As Gallego's kick sailed through I just turned around and smiled. He just kept on sitting there holding his kid cussing as we celebrated. Never had that experience at any other school, except one time in Coleman Coliseum.

My wife and I were walking thru the tailgating spots and got some taunts of Tiger Meat and such, but nothing too rowdy or rude - it still flew all over my wife, but I told her to expect the worst... and I was just sorta jazzed to see folks getting riled up about playing UAB!
We hung out before the stadium opened and spoke with a few sets of folks who were all pretty cool, and the inside the stadium experience was nothing bad in general... they were even cool afterwards, and I even yelled back - Y'all go whup Tennessee next week! (back when UT was worth whuppin'...) ...and they did.

...now, the WORST game experience we had was at ULALA (or SWLA as it was then)... we entered the stadium early, nobody was there, so we just took a seat on the back row to 'regroup' after a decent trek to the place... and some sorority 'rep' ran over and said 'y'all can't sit there, those are reserved seats!' and I think she even had some usher or something involved... um... ok - just passing thru (we were on the other side). I remember the concessions were goofy on the visitor side, anyway, and the fans were not too cordial. Good thing we stomped them like a yard DAWG 42-7 (the days of the 'Flex-Bone' deal...) ...and Memphis was a less than stellar experience as well...

Don’t worry, Jr, I’m yelling before, during and after every play that I’m not in the Stadium Club getting another cocktail, local brew and/or food item from our food spread. ?
Oh, and I mainly talk tennis, not golf. ?

We stayed too long at the casinos and walked in not too long before kickoff. It was packed outside and we had Tiger Bait! chanted at us too but also flipped off with accompanying dialogue.

One of the worst things I've personally seen is when Ann Reynolds was hit with an orange up at Missouri, and not one of the tiny ones. You talk about pissed off. There were UAB fans ready to wade into their student section. Security swooped in but it almost got ugly.
