Correct me if I'm wrong, but, wasn't Candle the OC under Campbell? The Offense was fun to watch. Not anymore. I love our "D" now except they can't stop other teams from driving down the field and winning (ND, NIU).

Not gonna blame much on the D this past weekend. If you’re on the field for over 40 minutes, you’re not the problem. They held NIU to 5 field goals. The one touchdown they gave up is because our coach is a bozo. NIU was content to bleed the clock with under 2 minutes left in the half. Candle the genius calls a timeout on 3rd and 8. Instead of a sure run, NIU passes for a first down, and then goes down and scores a TD on our gassed d.

Why call that timeout? Your d has been on the field all half. Let them get off the field heading into the half, especially knowing you get the second half kickoff.

Additionally, our offenses is largely incapable of sustaining a drive. It’s big play or bust. Based on that, what’s the thinking in using a timeout, trying to get the ball back deep in your own territory with under 90 seconds left in the half. The other team will be playing a prevent to avoid giving up that big play, and our offense can’t string 5 good plays together without a penalty, dropped pass, or a ball thrown 6 feet over the receivers head.

Absolutely baffling decision making to me. Second dumbest decisions are his continued insistence on going for it on 4th and 2-4 yards in our own territory. O line can’t get a push. QB’s aren’t accurate. You’re just hanging the D out to dry.

+1
I thought the questionable pass interference and then the jumping on the pile calls were critical points in the loss.

perhaps but Rockets were outplayed all game, one in which they were heavily favored

Actually if you look at the stats, Rockets out performed
NIU in alot of areas like in yds per carry 4.4 to 6.1. Total Yardage was close. The big discrepancy was 3rd down conversion. NIU's Defense was better on 3rd Down than
UT's. Of course UT's D gives up the critical pass play at the end of the game similar to the Notre Dame loss.
Average gain per play UT 6.9 yds NIU 5.0 yds.
outperformed a team they were supposed to defeat easily-yet lost, regardless of the penalties
Our offense has always been the backbone of the team. But starting a couple years ago you could see things start to change. And I feel the biggest problem is coaching. Slow developing plays and blocking from our line. Need to change it coach Candle. Offense is predictable if ya ask me.
