Doing a little bit of a deep dive this morning into the drive charts has revealed that in 3 of our last 4 games, our D has not allowed more than 70 yards or 7 pts in the 2nd half.

ISU-11 2nd half yards and 0 pts.
SJSU-8 2nd half yards and 0 pts.
Buffalo-68 2nd half yards (65 of which were on the garbage time touchdown drive) and 7 pts.

Keep the adjustments coming!

Voted least likely thread to exist in 2020.
Pulled the info from a couple of different sources.

We have 13 sacks against our FBS opponents. Those teams have allowed 8 sacks the rest of the year. We have played some of the top pass protection Olines in FBS. We have 5 opponents left ranked 100 or lower in sacks allowed. Only NIU (t6) and EMU (t84) are better than that.

Pulled from Ball St. message board (which pulled from Mac-sports.com)

-BSU is one of the least penalized teams in the MAC
-BSU has the fewest Offensive Red Zone appearances (12) in the MAC
-BSU has the worst Time of Possession in the MAC
-BSU is 11th in the MAC in Total Offense
-BSU is 8th in the MAC in Total Defense
-BSU is last in Offensive Pass Efficiency

Never wanting to get ahead of ourselves...hopefully will see another solid defensive effort and help get Eleby's recent happy feet/internal clock back under control.

I have been a part of too many threads that start like this at the beginning of the week only to be licking wounds come Sunday.

Haven't we all...

Championship teams win the ones they should and a few maybe they shouldn't.
Need Fiske back next week. He was missed in the first half. Imagine if this defense get Garner, Thomas and Fiske back next week.

Need everyone possible with Bussell gone for the year.
Those numbers are insane. Never thought I'd see a lockdown defense that makes great halftime adjustments. Especially with the injuries we seem to sustain on that side of the ball every year.

Is this defense better than the 2016 defense?

Body of work is still too small, but not to this point...

TOP is really helping our defense. Gives them time to make sideline adjustments... stay fresh and do work!

Michigan game kind of skews it though. 2016 team didn't play an offense that explosive. Pitt either for that matter.

I would say talent-wise that 2016 defense was better- I don't think there are 4 future NFL players on this year's defense- but performance has been pretty close.

Taking the Michigan game out of the equation for a bevy of reasons, I am glad to see that we are doing a pretty solid job of keeping teams UNDER their scoring average. Again, early in the season, but it is a promising stat...
Stats from Mlive article:

The defense has also done a good job at getting off the field, ranking seventh nationally in third-down conversion defense (27.6 percent), third in the Football Bowl Subdivision in fumbles recovered (8), 12th in sacks per game (3.4) and 20th in total defense (297.8).

As a whole, WMU’s turnover margin of 11 takeaways against two giveaways puts them at No. 5 in the FBS.

Broncos also ranked 3rd nationally in TOP, this is something in the TL era that we have not done and obviously was successful in 2016 when we did that and that turned out pretty well.

Just gotta keep it up!

Word is Fiske should clear Covid Protocol later this week to be ready for BSU game. They need everyone available for this game.

Obviously being someone with some inside knowledge on the matter...do you think these positive cases have been a bit of a wake-up call to make sure everyone is being more careful?

I have solid connections with the athletic department. The infections have been break through cases and being more careful should be common sense. Since we’re talking about 18-23 year old kids, I’m guessing common sense doesn’t always apply.
They're college kids. Probably not being all that careful. Can't really say with much confidence that I would be either at that age.
Yes, Esposito should have been fired couple years ago according to the "experts" on here.
