Assuming he’s still at UC.

I heard IU’s coach makes $5m. Fickell makes $3.4m. Still early, don’t know how the bowls play out…

Don't think we can afford a HUGE raise until we're actually receiving Big 12 money, but if we reach our goals this season, I could see him getting bumped up to $4-4.5 million.

Allen is actually making $4.3M this year, but his contract does escalate by $200,000 every year maxing out at $5.5M.

My guess is if/when offers Fick his next deal it will be set up in a similar manner to give us time to figure out what the revenue is going to be going forward.
No matter what he ends up making, he's set for life.

True. For Butch Jones, I always got the sense that another $100,000 a year would lure him away, LOL.

But I've never had the sense it was strictly about the highest dollars for Fickell. He has always appeared to be concerned about securing competitive money for his assistants and now seems laser focused on the IPF.

He's now running a top ten program--soon to be one of two P5 programs in his home state which also happens to be a recruiting hotbed. I trust Cunningham to have an ongoing dialogue with Fickell and provide pay increases commensurate with both UC's success and current budget. Luke might even be willing to see some future increases deferred as lump sum bonuses when the B12 revenue stream is flowing.

Could he be gone at the end of the season? Sure. But I'm not certain that even if the B12 break didn't happen this year he'd walk away from what he's built here. I think his deep Ohio roots have worked in our favor and if he remains happy and challenged here it could be a long run.
I’ve come to the conclusion over the past 30 years that it’s always partially about the $$ no matter what coach we are talking about.
Give him a long term deal escalating as B12 money kicks in. Add big buyouts.
If UC beats Notre Dame and make the playoffs, he should get Brian Kelly money.

If not, then no.
Should do a big bump like $5M per year. The cost to the program has to be way more than that if we lose him. Do it before jobs start becoming available (except USC) as show of good faith. I think a donor just put up $15M. Use that to lock him up / pay exit fees.
I wonder how much the Norvell and Frost faceplants factor in. Has there been an AAC coach that left and killed it?

Matt Rhule has done pretty well since leaving Temple.

Haven't most of Cincinnati's coaches who have moved on done well afterwards?

Two of the last three, Dantonio and Kelly, are the all-time winningest coaches at Michigan State and Notre Dame. Tim Murphy holds that distinction at Harvard. The only flop was Butch Jones at Tennessee.

Butch is still the only Tennessee coach with a winning record there post Fulmer. The only coach to reach the top 10, to win the 9 games (2), and finish in the top 25 (2) during the post Fulmer era. That program isn’t good anymore but Butch did better than anyone since 2008.

Not the ones who coached in the AAC.
Hell even Tuberville turned his flop into a Senate seat. I’d say our exes have done pretty well for themselves.
Uh.. No.

Butch flopped at Tennessee and then had whatever that todo that was. Tuberville never coached again.

Go through the list of guys hired away from the AAC, not the Big East. It isn't pretty.

Butch Jones has been the most successful coach at UT since Fulmer. I wouldn't call his time there a flop. He won three bowl games and had two 9 win seasons. Not a smashing success, but probably about the ceiling for UT given the challenges of the SEC.

Absolutely. 04-cheers to the Old Ball Coach for the best UT line ever!

Short answer... As much as he wants. Period
