Norfolk St?

How about just survival as institutions?

A lot of HBCU's are about the same level of academics as the OVC and Horizon League schools that are struggling to adapt as the world of higher education changes.

With their new stadium, I would move Alabama St. up to Level I. I would also add Norfolk St. to Level II and move Texas Southern and NCCU to Level I.



Edit: after doing some more research Prarie View should also be in Level I as well.



Overall, as long as the MEAC and SWAC continue to exist, I'm not sure there is really any pressure for for even the financially weakest members of those conferences to go down a level.

You should put NC Central on tier 1 as the UNC System will keep them well suited for D1 and higher learning.

That's the tricky part with Grambling. Brand/Tradition-wise, Grambling's Tier I. Institutional-survivability wise, Grambling's Tier III.

I'm not sure how Jackson State is above Grambling or Southern among SWAC schools, not in terms of name brand value.

I do concede that J-State is the better institution right now. But not as a brand name, IMO. Ditto for Tennessee State.

Today vs. Tomorrow are different discussions altogether.

The political/financial situation in Louisiana in particular is going to force some mergers between state schools. It is inevitable unless the paradigm shifts in higher ed in next few years wind up benefiting some of the schools like MVSU and recently former DI school Savannah State.

Tennessee State should have a solid future.

Dr. Glenda Glover (highly respected) seems content to stay long term as president.

Eddie George is leading the football program.

Construction of a massive new residential hall will soon be completed.

I've been a TSU football follower since the mid-1970s when "Big" John Merritt coached the program. Lots of history and tradition.

Swap PVAMU and TSU

Prairie View has a bright future, it's growing within the Texas A&M system.

Texas Southern has been on life support in the recent past, has been bowled over by controversies and is redundant and not part of a major university system. Their academics are worse than PV's.

Not at all biased if you can believe that.
